Seiko Men's SUP896 Gold-Tone and Brown Leather Solar-Power Dress Watch

I am a fan of the classic rectangular business watches of the 1930s. This homage is a good homage to those watches but is executed with a modern solar quartz movement so it is reliable and super simple to use - as well as being very affordable. If you like the simple, clean, elegant look of those older watches, you will be happy with this watch. Rectangular watches tend to wear bigger than circular watches so don't worry about this one being too small. It is plenty big for most people. It is thin and lightweight so it is easy to wear. The strap looks good and compliments the watch but it takes a bit of breaking in. Seiko did a good thing by going with a gold face for this watch rather than white. It gives the watch a classical but distinct look so it doesn't look like a watch trying to pretend to be a Cartier Tank (one of the great all time classics in my opinion). If you like the old time rectangular look but you are looking for an affordable daily wear watch, this is a great choice.

Extremely elegant watch that looks like it costs hundreds more than it really does. Literally within seconds of coming out of the box the watch started running just with the ambient light from my kitchen. So far it keeps perfect time. I was initially concerned about the size, but due to the shape of the watch it looks plenty big on my wrist. The band is a little stiff, but I am confident that it will become more flexible and conform to the shape of my wrist as I wear it. The buckle is very nice and also appears to be of high quality. One other initial concern, which turned out to be no problem, was the lake of a sweep second hand, something that I have had in every other watch I have ever owned. I don't know if it is just the look of the watch or the shape of the watch face, but I don't miss the second hand at all. I would recommend this watch to anyone that wants a really good looking watch that can be dressed up or down for relatively low cost.

At first I was hesitant about the gold color, but after receiving the watch I changed my mind. First, the size of the watch is perfect for me, I'm of medium stature so the new ridiculously big watches are not for me. This watch reminds me of a tank watch that my dad used to wear. However, this Seiko tank watch has a modern twist, it's solar powered. I never have to replace batteries! That is a big plus for me. The watch is simply elegant, perfect for business casual attire at work. Another plus, this watch is inexpensive compared to other European watches.

1st off, I own over 40 wristwatches, everything from Breitling, Rolex, Longines, Eterna, Squale, Seiko, Citizen, and Vostok. Most of my watches are Divers or Sports type watches.I didn't have a dedicated Dress watch and have always been drawn to the rectangle case watches of the 50's.I didn't want to spend big coin on a Cartier Tank or a Reverso so I opted for this instead. It is dressy, classy, lightweight, and looks like it's expensive when it's not. It's even 50mm WR so I could take it in the pool with a different strap, a Perlon perhaps. When I look at it, it reminds me of the old Bulova my grandfather had.I love it, and was surprised the strap fit my 8" wrist (just fit on the last hole) and doesn't seem tiny of small on the wrist like the dimensions would lead you to believe!

If you want a basic, simple dress watch that will look good with your brown or beige suit without breaking the bank, you just found it. This thing is not too big, it's reasonably easy to read, and it is attractive and perfectly business appropriate in person. I love the fact that it is a solar watch so I don't have to mess with batteries. The strap is nice looking and appropriate to the watch, but I would not say it is likely to live forever. You'll almost certainly be replacing the strap at some point, perhaps more quickly than you want to if this becomes your daily driver. But I don't wear mine except when I want a dress watch with a brown strap, and if you plan to give yours the same kind of intermittent use, the strap should prove sufficiently durable. Overall, I've had several of these solar, Seiko watches over the years, and found they really hold up well. I've got one that is coming up on 20 years old, that I still wear frequently, that has required zero maintenance. I suspect this one, with relatively gentle, intermittent use in a professional environment, will easily outlive me.

The watch turned out to be better looking than photos showed it. It isn't big or thick, so it looks good on my medium sized wrists. In the age of ridiculously oversized watches this reminds of old school good taste and common sense. Markers and hands are cut and mirror-polished, there's a subtle radial brushed finish on the dial, this piece is fun to look at different angles, there's a fifty shades of gold. Machining and plating quality is top notch. The band is calf leather, it breaks in and takes the form of your wrist rather fast, it's comfortable to wear. Readability is good. This is a tank-style watch, but unlike the other Seiko model with white dial and black hands which tries too hard to look like Cartier tank, this one has got it's own unique style. Overall: great little dress watch.

A great Cartier Tank Tank style and the slightly smaller case size is so much better than the other Seiko watch I bought from Amazon at the same time, (the Seiko SUP880, a white-faced, black band Cartier Tank Replica). The latter SUP880 is really too large to be mistaken for an actual Cartier Tank Watch, but this SUP896 is not. I may replace the dark brown Calf Leather band with a 'Genuine Alligator' band at some point, but the Seiko calf leather band is decent for the price and fine for the time being. Seiko watches are generally very reliable and this Seiko SUP896 is a watch that's actually better looking in person than in the images shown on Amazon. It is elegant, well priced and certainly an excellent value. Best of all it's a Seiko SOLAR watch! Highly Recommended!

lovely watch very ellegant well worth the money

I use it to pair up with my smart casual outfits or when using brown shoes and belts. There is a slight a slight bling due to the gold dial and bezel, but it’s still elegant.
