iFilters Whole House Sediment Filter System for Dirt, Sand, Silt, Rust and Scale - Clear Housing - 3/4" Ports - Pressure Relief Button

I am on well water and the water comes out yellow and orange. There's rust in it. I also live in an apartment and don't have access to the water main that feeds the house. To keep my clothes from turning urine-colored yellow, I got these. The threads on these are 3/4NPT aka garden hose, which is the same as the washer and dryer connections. Just needed some 3/4" brass nipples to hook up the hoses. (Yes that's really what they're called). As a previous reviewer mentioned, you need to use plumber's putty on the threads instead of Teflon tape. I used some with additive for ABS plastic, that's what the base appears to be made from. You also need to screw your connector all the way in, until the threads bottom out, or else it'll leak. So far it's been about a month, no leaks and my clothes aren't turning yellow. So the sediment filters are working. The filter doesn't seem to care about being hooked to hot water either.

The filter is easy to install. We did have a leak during the initial test run and issue was solved by using Loctite Clear Silicone waterproof sealant (blue tube) on the shark bite fittings that were installed onto the filter housing. As you can see from the images, this filter works. It was installed around Christmas, pic taken January 29th. I don't know what that gross yellow stuff even is but I'm glad it's being removed. We plan to change our filters monthly based on this. Definitely worth it thus far. I will be recommending these to family.

BUYER BEWARE: this water filter system will not fit standard 10" x 2.5" water filters! This company - Ifilters, has very sneakily manufactured this filter housing to fit a filter that only they make, they measure 9.25" so that you have to buy them from them at a higher price than the aftermarket ones. You can get aftermarket ones and cut them, but it's the principal that turns me off. So unless you're willing to pay their price for their special sized filter, or buy your own aftermarkets and cut them, which isn't really a huge deal, go with something else. Other than that the filter housing itself works fine. This model doesn't have a bypass valve. So make sure you have water shut off valves on either side of the filter housing and a way to release the pressure. I'll keep it and just by aftermarket filters and cut them to size, but I feel a little violated and misled. I guess that's what I get for not buying name brand.

It was quick and easy to install by myself with Shark Bite fittings, and after a month it is still working great. I wish there was a by-pass feature on it-hence only 4 stars. A plumber suggested and I installed my own by pass plumbing in the event I should ever have a problem with the filter.

I returned the first set of three because the threaded fittings leaked very badly. As a machinist, I had the ability to inspect the threads and I did not like what I found but this can be an issue with plastic threads. Getting a good seal is a balance between using enough sealant (tape or dope), being tight enough to seal but not so tight to break the plastic. The company had excellent email communication, and did not hesitate to refund my money. After scouring the internet for a comparable replacement, I did not like any of the other options based on price and reviews. I already knew this product had solid construction with very good o-ring seals and I really wanted the clear bowls so I can see when the filters need changing. So I decided to order the same product again, knowing that I needed to use extra care to prevent leaks. In my case, I used a 3/4NPT pipe tap and threaded it in by hand, then 1-1/2 more turns to clean the roundness of the threads. Then I applied Teflon pipe dope to fill BOTH the male fitting and female threads. After threading in the fittings by hand I then tightened a full 1-1/2 turns with pliers. The fittings seemed to bottom out in the filter housing. After install and gluing all the fittings I was leak free. I don't care for Teflon tape with plastic threads as plastic threads usually have mold-lines and other imperfections that Teflon tape doesn't seem to fill, even when used excessively. I'm sure that if you buy these, and use Teflon pipe dope as described you can get a leak free install without needing a pipe tap. I used channel lock pliers to tighten my pvc fittings before gluing the balance of the pvc, and not a single drip!

Ordered 2 of the same item filter cannisters. They came with 2 different type caps with different length internal filter supports. One interior filter support +/- 1/2" longer as clearly visible in the pictures. The longer one also has a larger diameter that will not fit in standard 9.75" filters for this type of cannister. After 6 months of using the filter that it shipped with that fit it. I'm $200.00 into replacement filters trying to find some that fit. No way to reach vendor for replacement parts. Expectations are that you purchase an entire new housing hoping that they get send matching components........Trash outfit.

This filter is the best I have purchased in this filter size. The included bracket is heavy duty. It easily holds the filter in place during use. I have had to purchase brackets separately for other filters of this type and they are not half the strength. The included filter is perfect and you can easily see into the housing to keep an eye on the filter. My only concern was the sticker claiming it was made in Taiwan. I was under the impression it was made in the U.S.A. Otherwise, I would purchase it again.

Product arrived on schedule and in excellent condition, items packaged extremely well in foam lined box, all parts included with easy to follow instructions. Installed on cold water feed line on our hot water tank, with an AP117 carbon filter. Besides doing an expert job filtering water, the iFilters water housings if installed properly doesn't leak, that's a big bonus! I purchase only iFilter replacement filter's the prices are reasonable but most of all they always fit with no leak by, if you must purchase an off brand be sure the filter is 9 3/4" long or it won't fit in this housing.
