The Hello Kitty version of this is so cute and totally the reason why i got this. It is indeed not a full sized otamatone, but a very large keychain size of several inches. It comes with a button cell battery. It doesn't work exactly like a full sized otamatone, which you would use your thumb to slide up and down the back of the neck to change the tone. This one, instead, has a large button on the neck that you press to play individual tones from preset songs while you use your other hand to squeeze the silicone mouth open and closed to affect the quality of the sound. It's a novelty and was fun to try out. The sound is plenty loud for a thing this size. There are two little buttons in the top of the neck - one changes the octave of the tones/songs, the other cycles through the songs. This would be a great gift for a Hello Kitty lover.

I have wanted an otomatone for a long time, I had no idea you could even get mini ones. I didn't know there were Sanrio ones either. I love Kuromi and this otomatone is absolutely adorable. It can only play a set number of pre-loaded songs, you can't play anything you want on the mini ones. That doesn't really bother me, it's still fun to play around with and the noises it makes are super funny.

A fun toy for Hello Kitty fans to play with, this keychain otamatone can play eleven different songs (mostly children’s classics, so kids will recognize them) as well as offer a freeplay mode so you can compose your own music. Because of the small size, the functionality isn’t the same as a full-size otamatone; instead of adjusting the tone by stroking up and down the neck of the instrument, the player presses one button to play the sound and a second button to change the octave, all while manipulating the ‘mouth’ of Hello Kitty to further change the notes. It’s fun, but tricky for small fingers, so my child mostly uses it as a music box, singing along to the tunes she recognizes.

This Kuromi Otamatone is so cute and tiny. It has little buttons and you squeeze the mouth to make noises and melodies on it. While this isn't very big, it can play a few songs and I found myself having a lot of fun playing it as an instrument. I think this is a good introduction to an Otamatone and will help you decide if you want the big version or not. Od highly recommend it if you want a portable music instrument to attach to your bag. :)
