Reliable Spec PartโReturned After Fan Upgrade, Still Worth Considering for Legacy AC Systems
During a recent AC compressor overhaul, I purchased this 5ยตF capacitor as part of a proactive component refresh. I also installed a **dual-run capacitor** rated for both the compressor and fan circuits, anticipating the need for a separate fan capacitor alongside the new condenser fan motor. The 5ยตF unit arrived quickly, packaged securely with no terminal damage. The aluminum housing was solid, terminals spaced well, and the labeling was clearโideal for quick identification during install prep. However, the fan motor I ended up installing had a **built-in capacitor**, which meant I didnโt need this standalone part. Instead, I wired the motor directly into the dual-run capacitor using the standard C, FAN, and HERM terminal layout. This worked flawlessly and simplified the system wiring. Thatโs the key takeaway for buyers: newer fan motors often include internal capacitors, so before sourcing a separate one, check your motorโs spec label or wiring diagram. If your system uses an older motor, this 5ยตF capacitor appears reliable and well-suited for run/start support. Even though it was returned unused, the build quality and delivery experience made a positive impression. If I were working on a legacy unit againโor troubleshooting a standalone fan circuitโthis would be on my shortlist

Tested out perfect.
I have been a ARIZONA registered master heat pump technician for over 25 years. The problem I have noticed with capacitors is that many of them are defective out of the box. The reason I say that is I test the microfarads while the capacitor is under load which will tell me itโs exact microfarad rating. This is done by checking the amps and volts wile it is running. I use what I call the 2652 method. The simple formula is Start Winding Amps X 2,652 รท Capacitor Voltage = Microfarads. Sample: 5 amps Times 2652 divided 369 volts =35ยตF This is the correct way to test a capacitor. There are meters that have capacitor testers settings on them but I never used them because they are pretty much useless unless you just wanna know what size it is. You need to put a capacitor under load to make sure it doesnโt have any leaking Through that dielectric. This capacitor I have bought several times and it is exact to what it is rated at. Some brands of air conditioners you will find bad capacors on every one of them when you fire them up new. I donโt wanna mention any names but one that does this the most makes air conditioners that start with the letter C and another brand with the letter B. They actually buy rejected capacitors for their units to get them cheaper so sad. Itโs very important to have a correctly size capacitor to create a third leg properly. This is basically making a third phase. If youโre capacitor is leaking electricity through the dielectric it will shorten the life of your unit. About 25% of brand new air conditioner run capacitors do not pass the test. They can only be as far as 10% off of what theyโre rated at is there any greater than that itโs best to throw them away. Itโs also a good thing to change your air conditioning run capacitor at least every four years. In hotter states possibly more often. They make a 370 V and the 440 V capacitors I highly recommend going with the 440 V rating it will put up with more heat and will last longer. The 440 V rating only means how much electricity it can handle. So itโs basically heavier duty than the 380V ones. Your air conditioner might be 220 V but when the compressor is running the voltage across the run cap can double that. So be warned if youโre going to test a live Ron cab youโre going to have to be extremely careful because the voltage coming off that run cap can kill you. With that being said I recommend this brand.

Great for the price
Super easy to install, works effectively. My AC guy wanted to charge me $85, so much better.

Practical option to keep your AC running
Purchased to replace a capacitor for my house AC. These are a low cost option to trouble shoot an AC that's having trouble getting the compressor started. This one worked for my hard start kit. Use caution for DIY repairs. It isn't hard but definitely discuss with a professional or watch videos on YouTube to ensure you know what you are doing - including the need to turn off the power and ground the old capacitor before touching the wires.
