The Book of Zentangle

WONDERFUL STORY OF ZENTANGLE
There are several people who don’t like this book because it doesn’t come with lots of instruction or examples to use. But this book is meant to be a history of Zentangle and how Maria and Rick were inspired by the meditative and mindful way of drawing in a simple manner to create something wonderful! I wish I could meet them and become a CZT. It is a great book that I’ll probably read again and again. IF you want more instruction, get their Zentangle Primer Volume I. I’m the kind of person who likes reading about how people were inspired to create something that helps others. Zentangle has become a bit of an obsessions with me and if you try it you’ll only get more inspiration from Rick and Maria and their journey to creating this method of mindful drawing. Absolutely amazing!

Not a how-to, but the backstory
Although I've been Tangling for a few years, I had never read one of Maria and RIck's books until I bought the set of three of which this was one. It's not a how-to book in the sense of giving step-outs for Tangles, but it provides a lot of backstory about how their Zentangle process was created. It also explores the intentionality and mindset that is so helpful in improving one's Zentangle practice. The illustrations are beautiful and inspiring. I'm very glad I bought this book and refer to it often.

Waste of money, time and effort.
This doesn't teach anything about tangles at all. It's mostly 130 pages of them hawking their products and taking their official courses by certified instructors. Give me a break. "How to create Zentangle art" is more like "How to send us more money". It also keeps referencing all these other "kits" and "classes" which none of us have any idea what you're talking about. Ridiculous.

Not what was expected, from the author or the seller
I can't fault the author too much, I probably should've looked more into it. I was under the impression there were more elemental things to learn here, but it's all about the backstory and nothing new in the way of technique. The primer seems to hint at shape fillers that I thought were listed completely in this book but they weren't. I accept my lack of research in that part. The seller, on the other hand, advertised this as a "new" book, and when I received it the cover was creased, and it had scuffs and possibly something splattered on the cover. It's possible it's new but was badly handled prior to shipping since the interior pages seem crisp, but definitely not the quality I expect in a "New" book.
