How did I live without this?! I’m a hobby mechanic, I restore cars, do my own maintenance on cars, ATVs, generators, etc. I run into a lot of wonky screws and I hate drilling them out. This tool is great! I use it on delicate parts like carbs (light taps!) and seized brake screws. Even on partially stripped screws I have good luck. Glad it’s part of my toolset!

Used on door lock actuator screws. At first I was starting to strip them so I bought this and with a little heat (to melt the locktite) they all came off after a few wacks. Would definitely recommend.

This impact driver deserves a 5 really, but there are a few things that made me drop a star. First, the good: Succeeded where others failed- I borrowed my dad's old, never used impact driver from the 80's- a tekton precursor I believe. I beat on the thing for hours trying to remove my rotor screws (02 accord, rusted/seized). Two of them came out after an hour's worth of work. The remaining 6 didn't budge and were near stripping. I tried on several occasions with a can of liquid wrench and other penetrants handy. Nothing worked. Wanting to replace my brakes, calipers, and rotors, I needed the screws removed. I totally destroyed the other impact driver by beating on it endlessly, so I decided to buy this as a replacement. I gave it one last go with the old one (about 30 minutes worth) and decided to try this one... in about 5 bangs with the hammer, the screws basically fell right out. I was totally amazed but thought it had to be a one time thing... nope, each screw thereafter took only a few bangs and came out. In that regard, this tool deserves a 10 out of 5, it's that great! Why did it lose a star then? Two reasons. 1. The plastic sleeve holding the driver was busted before I opened the package. It could have easily fallen through and banged my toe- this tool is not light. I would definitely have preferred a sturdy blow molded storage case. 2. As other reviewers have warned, everything in backwards. L is to tighten, R is to loosen. I didn't believe this at first, but you can tell as soon as you hit the driver and try to turn it the wrong way. The instructions are even wrong. Since this is really the only function of the tool, it is hard to overlook incorrect instructions and markings.

This did the job! The bits are not very durable as other have posted but the tool itself worked like a charm. I just had to get comfortable with swinging the hammer hard enough. I handled it like a pro.

Awesome product. I wanted to change the rotors and brakes on my Acura. These cars are notorious for seized up rotor screws that just wont budge. I tried this without paying attention to the instructions and kept wacking it into the screw and the screw still would not budge. I thought I was doing something wrong. Changed the bit direction (incorrectly) thinking I had it in the wrong position but the screw would still not move! Gave up and put the tires and calipers back on and was not able to finish the job. Very disappointed. Gave it one more shot but this time read the instructions and watched a youtube video....instant success! The thing you need to realize is if you are trying to loosen a stuck screw, turn the bit holder to the left, while turning the handle to the right. This will lock the bit into the loosening position. So when u finally try to loosen the screw by applying an anticlockwise loosening turning action to the handle, the bit will not move unless with the handle. Now suppose you turned the bit holder to the right (used for tightening) by mistake and tried to loosen a screw by turning the handle anticlockwise. The bit holder would automatically turn to the left and lock into its proper position for loosening. So once you have the position set, apply a dab of permatex anti seize around the seized screw head, wait a couple of minutes and then place the impact driver into the screw head with the correct bit inserted into the bit holder. Apply a steady anticlockwise twisting action to the drivers handle with your left hand and use a 32 oz hammer to wack the driver 3-5 times with your right hand. You must continuously apply the anticlockwise twisting action with your left hand (switch hands for lefties). I CANNOT STRESS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO CONSTANTLY APPLY AN ANTICLOCKWISE TWISTING ACTION TO THE HANDLE WHILE WACKING THE DRIVER. It did not work for me until I did this important step! After 3-5 firm wacks you will feel the handle give a little as the screw breaks loose. Give it another 1-2 wacks while twisting and you have now successfully loosened the screw you could have sworn was not gonna budge no matter what you did 5 minutes ago. My first use of a tool like this was a great success. This one was just the right size for coaxing out a screw frozen by misapplied grout. On the usage of the forward-reverse collar: the instructions and markings on the tool are correct. I believe that some reviewers objected because the position is the opposite of some (most?) other impact screwdrivers. I have seen instructions online for using a tool like this that say, "Turn the collar in the direction of the movement that you want." With this little helpful guy, do not. Follow its instructions. For what it's worth: I used a glue gun to fasten the bit to the screw, whose Phillips slot was slightly gouged. This might not have been necessary, but I'd do it again. It was easy to break bit and screw apart afterward.

I bought this in efforts to get out the 2 rotor screws Honda has on each one. I first bought a Vessel screwdriver and with that was able to do the rears but attempting to do the fronts the following day the screws wouldn't budge. Went online, did some research and stumbled upon this impact drivers. On a warm Sunday, a spray of rust penetrant, 3 wacks of this on the screw, came right off. I was skeptical at first being that it's so cheap but trust me... Honda owners, this is all you need to get those stubborn rotor screws out.

You know how Honda people always just remove the screws from their brake rotors because they rust in place? Ever had a brake job put on hold by stripping the screw head and you had to drill it out? NOT WITH THIS THING IN YOUR TOOL BOX! This unit has never failed me. ANY screw is removeable now, no matter how old, no matter how rusted (as long as there is enough access to get this thing in there). I was concerned the bits may not be held in well since there is no "chuck" or anything, but they're sized to fit nice and tight in the end of the driver and stay in place all by themselves. When you whack this bad boy, it turns the bit a little, so it gives impact and torque force to the fastener at the same time, both breaking rust and loosening the screw. I wish I had bought one of these years ago. I found this product entirely because of Eric the Car Guy on YouTube, and man am I glad I watched that video.
