I've been building PCs for years, and Samsung has always been my go-to brand for storage. The Samsung SSD 9100 PRO 4TB PCIe 5.0x4 fits right in with the quality I’ve come to expect. From build quality to speed, it doesn’t disappoint. Build Quality: Strong and Durable The first thing I noticed when I took the drive out of the box was how solid it felt. It’s built to last with a sturdy heat spreader and a well-made PCB. This drive doesn’t feel flimsy at all, and I can tell it’s designed to handle heavy use over time. It’s a high-quality piece of hardware that inspires confidence. Performance: Fast and Ready for the Future The speed on this thing is impressive. I’m using it with my Asus z790 ITX motherboard, and even though the drive shares PCIe lanes with other components, it still delivers the advertised speeds without issue. Whether I’m loading large files, booting up Windows, or transferring a ton of data, it’s smooth and quick. The PCIe 5.0x4 interface means this drive is set up for the next few years, so I’m not worried about it being outdated any time soon. It’s fast enough for anything I’m doing now and should handle whatever comes next (not like there is anything I need faster at the moment :) ) Size: 4TB of Storage Having 4TB of space on an SSD is becoming more mainstream. Windows booting and Visual Studio compiling are SO fast!
This drive is so, so fast. While I am not able to max out the advertised top speed of 14,800MB/s sequential read, I do get around 13,000MB/s read and write, which is still great! Windows 11 boots so quickly, and compiling software in Visual Studio on my new build takes under a minute where it used to take 4-5 minutes on my last build. This drive stays cool thanks to the Thermalright HR10 2280 PRO Black SSD Cooler I put on it, topping out at 45C under heavy load and 32C-ish under normal load. I got a great deal on the 4TB at the time and it was a great price for an excellent PCIe 5.0 drive. It's a super fast, great drive so far. Amazing for PS5pro!!!
Glad I waited on an SSD expansion for the PS5 pro. This drive is so blindingly fast! I had to buy shades. Haha! It transferred 1.2 TB of data in about 4 minutes from the PS5Pro host drive. The 2TB price was only $10 more than the previous 990 version for 2025 black Friday. But the 9100 model is twice as fast, runs cooler and uses less power. Win-win-win. Although it's overspec'd for PS5, it is backward compatible. So more is better IMHO. Since it specs way above PS5pro requirements, I'm all ready for PS6!! Super easy install, but be sure and watch MULTIPLE videos if you haven't done this before. There's about 8 steps to the process including tips n tricks. For instance, PS5pro opens from BOTTOM for this storage expansion. Every video I watch seemed to leave out one or two or three aspects of this procedure. By watching multiple videos you'll get ALL of the information you need not just part of it. - I will update if there is any issue with longevity. Would definitely buy again.

Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB SSD: A Solid Performer, But with a Catch
Performance: Sequential vs. Random The sequential read/write performance is impressive. As you can see from the first benchmark, the drive consistently hit write speeds of around 1,782 MB/s and read speeds of 1,705 MB/s on my system. This is a significant upgrade from a traditional SATA drive and is more than enough for everyday tasks, large file transfers, and gaming. The performance graph shows a smooth, stable line, indicating that the drive can sustain these speeds without significant drops. The IOPS numbers were also very strong, hitting 1,437,702 on write and 1,344,7523 on read. However, the drive's behavior under random I/O is a different story. In the second benchmark, using a single thread, the performance was a bit more volatile. While the average write speed was a respectable 5,021 MB/s and read speed was 2,810 MB/s, the graph shows a lot more fluctuation. When I increased the number of threads to eight, the performance became even more erratic, with a lower average speed of 1,431 MB/s for reads and a similar 1,572 MB/s for writes. The access times also increased under heavier random loads, which suggests that the drive's controller might be struggling to manage a high number of simultaneous, random operations. Why the Difference? The discrepancy between the sequential and random performance likely has to do with how the drive's controller and cache are optimized. While it's great for sustained sequential transfers (like copying a large video file), it appears to be less efficient at handling many small, scattered operations at once, which is typical for a busy operating system or a database. The 9100 PRO's strengths are clearly in the sequential domain, where it can flex its Gen 5 muscles even on a Gen 4 interface. Conclusion The Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB is a fantastic high-performance SSD, even when it's limited by a PCIe 4.0 interface. It delivers exceptionally fast sequential speeds that are perfect for users who frequently work with large files. However, if your primary use case involves a lot of high-intensity, random I/O (e.g., a heavily used workstation or server), you might notice some performance dips under a multi-threaded load. Overall, I would recommend this drive for gamers, content creators, and anyone looking for a high-capacity drive for fast file transfers. If you have a Gen 5 system, you'll be able to unlock its full potential, but even on Gen 4, it's a very capable and fast drive.

Incredibly fast drive. Runs hot but no issue in my motherboard because it's cooled on both sides. 14,748MB/s for me.

Great performance even with multiple partitions
I am a PC pro and have been building for a long time. Recently upgraded to a Z890 mobo with one Gen5 m.2 slot. Previously I have numerous nvme drives in my system but wanted the speed increase for all my drives. So the 4tb allowed enough room for me to create multiple drives on this nvme. I was unable to reach the advertised read speed but the write speeds are great and is most important for me. If you dont know, when you create partitions you lose some speeds typically. The image with the 13k write speed is formatted as a single drive where the 12k write speed is after my partitions were created. Another note of interest, typically the larger the capacity the nvme the higher the Read/Write speeds you get. Also, you dont get the full 4tb, its actually 3.64 tb. So far, this has been a solid performer and I am very happy with the device and speeds. It has been fantastic with the large amounts of data I have to move around. It also speeds up all of your OS functions.

numbers are fast
So I love Samsung products and decided to get this with the ACASIS 80Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure, with Cooling Fan, Compatible with USB4 V2.0, USB4 V1.0, USB3.2/3.1/3.0 (TB501 Pro) I did Black Magic speed tests using my Mac Mini with thunderbolt 5, thunderbolt 5 cables. It's not a complicated setup. My Black Magic speed test results are showing about 6365 MB/s write and 5837 Mb/s reads.

Solid 5th gen m.2
Fast m.2 and loads applications and games very quickly. 2tb for a main drive is really good then pair with a second m.2 for more storage if needed. When building a pc, a good first m.2 to have before saving up for a second larger storage drive.
