I bought a can a few years ago just to have it on hand in case of an emergency and paid no mind to what the expiration date was.  Boy, am I glad I had it.   My teen son with special needs just about an hour ago decided to start a fire in a cheesy rusted metal and very shallow fire pit during a wind storm we were just having and the fire was burning wildly out of control....and close to the house.  I thought for sure the house would catch on fire, but I remembered the canned fire extinguisher I bought and ran and got it.  No kidding, it worked like a miracle!!!  It shut that raging fire down in seconds!  I just came here to buy a couple of more cans to keep on hand again....just in case!  I was lucky it wasn't expired!  I just checked and the expiration is 04/23/22.

Will this put out a lithium ion battery fire? Large battery (72v 26aH)?

I have experience with pyrophoric metals: magnesium, titanium, zirconium, etc.  The best method to extinguish a lithium fire is to smother the burning material.  This requires a class D extinguisher or a common household cooking ingredient - table salt.  Salt restricts the oxygen from reaching the burning metal & the heat create a hard shell.  It does require enough salt to build a mound on the burning metals.  
You will need a method to dispense the salt while keeping the proper distance.  In some industrial application, the salt is stored in clear rigid 3" polycarbonate tubes with plastic end caps to resist moisture.  The bottom cap is glued on.  
For home use, try using a clear tube used for straight florescent bulbs.  Cut to desired length, apply a cap (use duct tape) & fill with salt.  Clean up is a breeze & there's no overspray dust everywhere else.  Best part, it never expires !

the instructions on the side of the can say "use all contents. discard after use. use for small fires only and do not attempt to fight large fires that are too difficult to fight safely from 3 to 4 feet." we have 2 cans in our kitchen and a large extinguisher in our cellar and 1 in our garage. I SUGGEST ONCE.
