What is the shelf life?

Hi there, Good question, especially with the store shelves being stripped of every single bean. It is said the shelf life is 1 to 2 years. I personally have found they last about a year. After that, they get so hard and dry they just won’t cook. Ive tried to cook old beans myself and after12 hours and they were still like rocks. I didn’t add salt because that can also cause beans not to cook. So I would recommend using them within a year. I cook a large pot full when they are fresh and then freeze them. You could probably can the cooked beans too, I haven’t tried that yet, you probably need a pressure canner, they are likely considered a low acid food. Hope that helped.

Can I use these to blind bake a pie crust?

I don't see why a person couldn't use these beans to blind bake a pie shell.

Sort and rinse a quarter of the beans. Add 32 oz. chicken broth or water—ensure liquid covers beans by at least an inch. Cook in a crock pot on high with a little oil for six hours; add salt only after cooking. Beans may take longer than other brands but make excellent chili. Use water if preferred. Check that liquid stays above beans during cooking. Follow your chili mix package for flavorful chili. Enjoy!

Thes beans are very tasty and tender. Soak overnight in baking soda, rinse, boil, then simmer for 4 hours.
