Rhodesia-beginning to end

True grit
An interesting and engaging book, one that brings to life a former country that politically correct Western establishments would sooner have us all forget. The grit of the white settlers really comes through in Morkel's writing, and the overwhelming impression I am left with is of their enormous capacity for hard work coupled with an unflinching drive and sense of ambition. What a tragedy that Rhodesia's nation-building was destined to be overturned by the unscrupulous Robert Mugabe and his Western allies. Zimbabwe's leader is shown in his true colours in the book's heartbreaking final chapter, and it's horrifying reading.

Rhodesian family story
More of a family saga than a real history of the country, an interesting insight to a family life in country though.

A Rhodesian history
An excellent read for those who want to know the basic history of the wonderful country that was Rhodesia. Having been born there and spent 42 years in the paradise that was our beloved homeland, it was lovely to relive so many of the memories of our life there. Such a shame the paradise has been lost to corruption and degradation.

This is a fascinating account of the history of Rhodesia told through the experiences of one family that spanned it's entire existence.Ultimately it's a little sad and no doubt somewhat biased but there is no doubt that the author's feelings for his country are strong and genuine, and the destruction since wrought by Mugabe and abetted by the governments of the east and west in their desire to play geopolitics all too well known.

The book is written well in terms of grabbing the attention of the reader. However, the book is blatantly biased in not completely acknowledging the detrimental effects of white rule in Rhodesia although I do appreciate the unique perspective and experience of Ron Morkel.

The real Rhodesian story
At last the real story of Rhodesia as experienced by a family that was there from the beginning and not slanted by a politicians view. Many thanks Ron for educating me.
