No adjustment on the open force.
Purchased 2 units from Amazon 2/1/2020. Installed by a professional carpenter after his replaced 2 outside doors. After installation, both doors are very hard to open. I measured the open force with my luggage weighting scale, it took 20 lb. to open the door. The carpenter said there was nothing he can do about it, since his followed the template and the instructions, and there was no adjustment for the open force. My wife and my 8 year old granddaughter was not happy. After weeks of dealing with the heavy open force of the doors, today, I went to Google and found an instruction on how to reduce the open force by moving the top mounting bracket 2 inches away from the closer body. It worked link a charm. The open force was reduced to 5 lb. The manufacturer should have included the instruction on how to reduce the open force by moving the top bracket 1 to 2 in away from the closer body.

Dakason Automatic Door Closer, Residential and Light Commercial Use
My husband is the one that ordered and installed, so the review is his:(husband review) The product is good, well built and with very good resistance. I have installed this kind of product before. The compressor goes in the frame and the arm goes in the door. The arm could be a little bigger but it works as it is. In my installation, the door opens a little bit more than an 1/4 of the way and, for us is just fine to comfortably pass through. If I ever need to pass anything bigger, I can just unscrew on the middle of the arm and the door will be opening free. The regulations 1 and 2 work just fine. [1] (screw in) to set the time when we open the door. [2] (also screw in) to set the pressure on the shutdown time for a smooth shutdown). That is explained in the instruction flyer. How long it is going to last? Like I said, it is a good quality product, (all metal). Seems to me it is going to last a long time. We will see, I will come back to report if anything goes wrong. At least now, we won't hear that warning from your husband or wife. "Honey, you left the garage door opened, the heat is going to escape"! To that sense, we are both enjoying that peace of mind. I do!**UPDATEI moved the compressor towards the right, near the edge of the right door frame (pict number 4) and everything is working much better. The door is opening to it's full size of 90' + and it is more smooth on opening in which my wife loves it since it takes less effort to open it!

broke while attempting install...
the item looked great when it arrived. I started the install after reading over the instructions, and it seemed simple enough. I used the supplied template, and drilled out the holes, and when I went to mount the first part, I noticed the holes were WAY off. It turns out the template was not the right one for the item. I guess I should've lined the template up on the device it self first, but in all of the years of DYI, I have never before had a template supplied with the product, NOT be the right size for the product.Because the template is necessary for the correct dimentions from the hinged wall, and door top, etc. I was left with some guess work to figure out the best placement option for the unit to actually work... after a few tries, the metal parts of the product started stripping, and became useless. So I quit... defeated.

Very hard to open
This door closer works smooth and quite in closing a door. The two adjustments allow the user to select the rate of closing and the latching force that works best for size and weight of their door. However I had to return the closer as the amount of force required to open the door is too great. All measurements and swing arm angles were double checked and rechecked. The first time my wife tried to leave the house, it was so hard to open, she thought the door was locked. I anticipated a problem of this nature, since I could not operate the swing arm after attaching it to the valve body until the valve body was attached and held securely to the door. By manually operating the attached swing arm, it revealed the valve body's excessive amount of resistance to opening the door.

It works you just need to experiment
So far so good. I wanted to find a cheaper alternative than the ones sold at Home Depot. It looks the same in the photos. When it arrived however it was like a 2/3 smaller version of the one from Home Depot. I installed it on a full sized metal door. It works but needed to be adjusted at it’s full resistance to close the door fully. Don’t know if it’s because of it’s small size or it’s because of my metal door with a constant wind blowing against it.When installing the arm should be as tight as an angle as possible to fully close. That was my experience after Swiss cheesing the door

Works great; Installation was challenging
The door closer works great once installed, and has adjustments for closing speed. The provided screws weren't long enough to securely fasten the closer to the wall through the trim molding on the top of my door, and I had to install longer screws to make it work. I also had to adjust the position of the arm on the wall a couple of times to get the closing stroke right, which meant that I had to drill extra holes in my molding that had to be patched up. The provided template did not seem to position everything in the correct place, in my opinion. Overall a good product so far, after some trial and error on the install. I don't have to yell "shut the door" nearly as much any more :)

Doesn't work
I ordered this item with several other items. To my surprise, this item was shipped with my other purchaces...in individual pieces. As in, not boxed or in anyway grouped together. The instructions were torn up, because again, everything was just thrown in a massive box together. We finally got around to installing this last week. The instructions were hard to follow. After it was installed, even on the fastest door closing setting, this mechanism doesn't close the door all the way. This purchase was such a waste of time and money.

Does the job
Product is smaller that you would think. It is also versatile. I was able to install it on a fence gate with no problem. Works great for me even if installed outdoors.
