Q: how long do batteries last? can you use rechargeable energizer batteries? AA or AAA batteries

I’ve found new batteries last longer than the rechargeable ones. The rechargeables only lasted 4 hrs vs 10-20hrs on Amazon or Duracell batteries. Though dollar store batteries only go 4 hrs. Lol

Q: can it be used in water?

Hi Fred,Only the coil is waterproof. If you get the electronics wet then it's shot.This happened to me one time and Garrett gave me a good deal on a replacement 250.You can search their website for the waterproof model but it's quite expensive.Bob P

Q: will it tell me what kind of metal it is?

Yes. You are able to set it on what metal to detect and the depth of them
