Unreliable. Cameras stopped working.
Cameras stopped working. I have two cameras connected, but am seeing an error about not having licenses. This company is getting worse. Greedy. They simply do not care about the customers. Expect things to get even worse over time.

I wok as an IT Professional and have used Synology in many production environments. I have nothing but love for their products. I purchased the NAS to convert an 8 TB external drive into a NAS for my home network. It has been running amazingly. It was easy to set up and get going. It has more features than I need, but I will be implementing some in the near future. The one and only thing that disappointed me and has knocked a star off of what otherwise would be a perfect rating: The drive had preexisting data on it. I installed the drive in the NAS and went to do initial setup. It warned me that all the data on the drive would be wiped. Alright, thanks for the warning! I took the drive out of the NAS and placed it back in the external enclosure it was in... and to my horror the drive had already been formatted! It warned me AFTER it had already erased all the data from the drive! Luckily I have backups of most of my data, but I still lost about 500 GB of (thankfully) replicable data. SO be warned, if you are using a drive with data on it, it will be wiped the moment the NAS initializes for the first time.

Decent Good product for who need own cloud storage for photos and videos for privacy and only for personal usage, It's only 1gigabit lan speed so better for personal use. Synology photos app are very usefull for uploading photo and video automatically. Synology gives many apps like drive, notes online streaming,

i bought it, because i had laptop hdd 2.5 inch and wanted to use it as a NAS drive. i searched for options. 1-use synology solution(around 17K at the time of purchase) 2-do it diy with some old cheap machine(depends on the budget) 1-synology-setup was easily but performance of the disk was not ok. synology os also complained that disk is not tested for performance.i setup the synology as per synology documentation but struggled to get the needed performance as i wanted to run VM's in smb share.media server was very good and usb sharing was OK.also i was limited to 1Gbps lan. 2-DIY-1 used raspberry pi5 8gb(around 11K that time) model with ubuntu and tplink powered usb hub(around 1.5K) and usb 2.5G realtek adapter(around 2.5K) and same internal 2.5 inch hdd.setup smb via ubuntu and this time peek speed was around 1.5Gbps. so i would recommend synology if we can invest in a good 3.5 inch hdd recommemded by synology. for used disk such as laptop hdd .i would recommend DIY setup. Above was my personal practical experience. but software wise synology is good.we can use this to join to domain, do sync, user home directories, tftp server etc. i later on realized that i just needed SMB most of the time which ubuntu was sufficient. also DIY is good when we have knowledge where to find what and better hardware of course.

I upgraded from a DS116 released in 2016. Gotta admit it doesn't feel that much faster for a low-demand NAS. But I figure ten years is about due time for a direct replacement and the DS124 fit the bill. Nothing fancy for the price, should work fine, should do everything before without issue. Looks the same, feels the same, that was the goal. I didn't realize Migration Assistant is not available for anything in the budget/lower-end range. So I just plugged in the new DS124 with new drive, ran initial setup, and manually dragged things over the network. Whatever, data is there now. I don't see how that could be so resource-intensive to just initiate a point-to-point transfer but that's not my call. This is a single bay but if you need redundancy, you can install one of the cloud services and back up what you need. I've used S3 and Backblaze B2 over the years, both fairly reasonably priced for non-TB amounts of data automatically uploaded. I run Plex only as a media server, no transcoding. The old one played say 50GB files fine over the network ok and the new one hasn't been a problem. To serve files and act as a basic simple NAS, the single bays are fine. My acquired media files are not worth backing up, assess your own needs and situation.
