The two 8000 but units that we purchased have worked well this last season. They are reasonably quiet compared to the window ac units we've had over the years. What I really like is that the cool air comes out the top instead of in your face. It circulates the air better and no shutters to clean or break. They are as easy to install as any standard window unit, and the side panels make for a neat installed look. The app is good, though both units had instances where the room temp display froze up on the app and wouldn't update until the units were unplugged, then plugged back in. Otherwise the app is pretty informative. The remote works fine, but as it's an infrared unit the range is limited. The magnetically held filter cover is pretty trick, and the filter is the same type as you'd find in a split system, plus the charcoal filter. After running them this summer I'm impressed. They're not perfect, but nothing ever is in this world. If the app was flawless, and with an rf remote it would have earned 5 stars. Update: Both 8000 btu units are in their third season and running fine. The app works well enough that I don't know where the remotes are, and I can adjust them anywhere my Wifi signal reaches. With one unit on each floor of our tree shaded 1400 sq. ft. Cape they keeps things nice and cool in temps up to the upper 90's. They look good, work well, and have held up just fine. I took a chance with a relatively new manufacturer and it paid off. I'd buy them again. Update: I ordered a new 5000 btu unit for one bedroom that was tucked away and so far it's worked well. The room is about 150 sq. ft, in size, and it cools the room down very quickly. The assembly instructions were clear and easy to understand. The top rail goes on with a few screws, then the thick accordion panels slide into the sides, and the frames are pushed into the rails. Thats it. It has the same minimalist look but it's a little different from the larger units. The cool air exits from the top front which swivels from straight out to upward, and a small lever to adjust it from side to side. The display is nice and bright and goes blank after a time delay. I did have an issue with the filter. It was hard to insert into the side of the unit, so I reached out to product support. They responded quickly and sent instructions to make it easier to install. It's only been installed for a couple of weeks and so far I'm pretty happy with it. It linked to the app right away, it's nice and quiet and cools the room in a jiffy. 5000 btu ac unit Update: I contacted Windmill about the filter installation issue and they responded that night. They shipped me a new filter after a couple of weeks that's designed to be easier to install, and it works! Now it slides right in with no issues. Our cooling season has pretty much ended up north so the units will be stored for next season. The 8k btu units are still working flawlessly, and the 5k btu unit is working fine with the filter upgrade.

I've been a satisfied owner of two Windmill AC units – an 8000 BTU and a 6000 BTU – and my experience with these products and the company's customer service has been nothing short of outstanding. Product Performance: I purchased my first Windmill AC unit (8000 BTU) on April 26, 2022, and it has been an essential part of my home's climate control system. This unit not only cools efficiently but also operates quietly, which is perfect for a peaceful home environment. The second unit (6000 BTU) I bought on May 23, 2023, works flawlessly in another room, providing consistent cooling without any issues. Advanced Integration: I have an advanced setup in my apartment using Alexa automation to monitor various sensors. These sensors track indoor temperatures, weather forecasts, and my location to optimize the AC settings. This ensures my home is at the perfect temperature when I arrive from work. The setup was seamless, and the Windmill AC units perform flawlessly within this system. It's been a lot of fun dialing it in, and the units are incredibly reliable. Customer Service: Recently, I encountered an unusual issue with my 8000 BTU unit. Despite being out of the standard one-year warranty, the customer service team at Windmill, particularly Lois, went above and beyond to assist me. They suggested various troubleshooting steps and were very patient as we worked through the issue. I will mention that appliances these days use computer boards and I have an extended warranty on my other unit and do recommend others consider the benefits. When the problem persisted, they offered to replace my unit as a gesture of goodwill. This level of customer care is rare and highly appreciated. The replacement process was incredibly smooth, and the new unit was shipped promptly. Their communication throughout the process was exceptional, making the entire experience stress-free. Final Thoughts: Windmill has earned my loyalty through their high-quality products and exceptional customer support. If you’re looking for an efficient, quiet, and smart-compatible AC unit, Windmill is the way to go. The seamless setup and outstanding customer service make it a worthwhile investment. Recommendation: I wholeheartedly recommend Windmill AC units to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient cooling solution. Their product quality and support team are second to none. I'll be sharing my positive experience on every review platform possible because they truly deserve it. Thank you, Windmill, for not only providing great products but also for standing behind them with such amazing customer service.

We bought one of these in 2022 and it works pretty well. But the unit we bought this year has constant problems. About once a week the connection with the app breaks down. When that happens it doesn’t respond, or it responds randomly. The app will say it is set to “Cool” and “68 F,” when in reality it’s on “Eco” and “76 F.” It’s fine after resetting the unit and deleting the old app profile, until the next time. (Very strong WiFi around this unit, that is not the problem.) Also, because of the placement of the temperature sensor, the unit often thinks the room is much cooler than it actually is. It’s a bigger problem when set to Low. The room will be 73 or 74 F and the unit thinks it’s 68 F. Cranking up the fan cycles more air past the sensor and you get a more accurate reading, but then the unit is louder. These seemed great when we got our first one, now they just seem okay. It’s quieter than the unit it replaced, but you have to monitor it and sometimes intervene to make sure it’s working the way you expect.

I’ve had this air conditioner for 3 years so I can certainly speak on the long term use of this product. Pros and Cons: Pros: - Looks great and fits my window well - WiFi connectivity is useful - Remote works well - Cools the space efficiently Cons: - After 3 years of use, the unit starts to automatically turn down the temperature rapidly to 60 degrees, the lowest setting. When I try to increase the temperature to 70, my preferred temperature, it will continue to override my input and ignore the remote or physical button input on the unit. It will also make beeping noises randomly that are very loud and are not even remotely possible to make on your own by pressing the buttons. I’m assuming this is a logic issue on the board itself. - The thermometer is not accurate. - The Alexa connectivity isn’t great and Alexa says the unit is disconnected but still changes the settings fine. - The unit can make weird drone noises at times. Overall it is the best window unit I’ve had, but central air always is best.

I was searching for an A/C window unit. After much research, I went with Windmill-WM because it was highly recommended by the NYT Wirecutter. I purchased the unit in July 2022. It met all expectations highlighted in the Wirecutter review. Unfortunately, this year, 2024, I started experiencing issues with the unit. It appeared the control board was malfunctioning. As I understand it, this may happen for a variety of reasons. I have owned/renovated many homes and as a result, I realize that occasionally an issue may arise with an appliance. Simply, put, it just happens. Now here is the thing, and it is why I am writing this review - how does a company handle and resolve customer complaints. When the unit started malfunctioning on a Sunday, I went to the company’s website and started a live chat. Someone was actually there responding to me on a Sunday at 4:00 p.m.! I was offered instructions on how to troubleshoot the problem. Unfortunately, the troubleshooting did not solve the problem. I was told that my issue was being elevated. The next morning, Monday, at 9:30 a.m. customer service reached out by email. The representative was fully informed regarding the issue. It was explained that, as I mentioned above, that a variety of reasons could cause a malfunction. But with no questions asked, no finger-pointing, no hassle, no argument, the rep said a new unit was going to be sent out to me at no cost, despite the fact the warranty expired a year before. It arrived a few days later. So, again, issues may arise with the appliances, it just happens. After reading other reviews, it doesn’t appear that Windmill has many complaints about its product considering they must sell quite a few of these A/C units because the product was featured in the NYT. The take away here is how a company will handle and ultimately resolve the issue to a customer’s satisfaction. Windmill treated me fairly, with courtesy, and delivered! Windmill’s customer service was beyond compare. And it’s a damn good A/C!
