Good stable lamp. Much dimmer than OEM
I'm using this lamp in a Sony HW40 projector. The projector is from 2014. This is my third lamp. The first two were OEM Sony Lamps (actually made by Philips). This lamp was 1/5 the price of a Sony lamp. In my experience it works great and is very stable. Some lamps for this particular projector will flicker, especially in low lamp mode. This one doesn't. It's a solid image with no flicker in any mode and seems to be good quality. However, it's much less bright than OEM. A "real" OEM lamp starts at 1700 lumens and drops slowly over a 2000 hour period to probably 800 lumens. Official lamp life is rated at how long it takes to get to half brightness. This lamp I would estimate at closer to 1000 lumens right out of the box, though that's a guess from long experience from projectors not an actual measurement. And now that I'm about 6 months in, I'd say this is under 800 lumens. Basically this lamp is as bright at 6 months as an OEM lamp is after a couple of years. If you use your projector in a dark room on a fairly small screen it will probably be bright enough for a satisfying picture. If you screen is much over 100 inches or in a living room, or you just want the full performance your projector should have, you might want to spring for the "real" OEM lamp or a clone that uses the OEM bulb. So overall I'll give it 4 stars. 5 stars for value and 3 for brightness.

First impressions: Excellent for price
Update: 03/09/2020: so after 2+ years of use we are starting to notice the bulb getting slowly dimmer. We use this projector as our daily use "TV" so I'd say there is at least 2,000 hours and as much as 2,500 hours of use on the bulb. Very happy with this life for this price and will be ordering another bulb momentarily. Still 5 stars, no complaints, highly recommend. Update: 12/07/2017: after a couple of weeks of use I'm fairly certain this is slight dimmer than the original OEM. The difference is not significant enough for me to change rating or my opinion that this is a great lamp for the price. Installed lamp today. Fit perfect, installation was easy. If you've done any searching for replacement lamps you should already know from the price that this is not Sony OEM. Unlike some replacement lamps it also is not a Philips bulb, which is also reflected in the price. The housing is identical to the OEM right down to the markings with the exception of the Sony logo. The bulb has no markings whereas the OEM is clearly labeled Philips. One area I was concerned with is that the OEM bulb is clearly marked as 150 watts where this bulb has no mark indicating wattage. That being the said, I am not noticing any significant difference in brightness so either its also 150 watts or I'm just not perceiving a difference. Overall for $76 easily 5 stars. Right now I have noble intentions to update this review after getting some hours on the lamp but as to if that will ever actually happen... Who knows. Some photos included, OEM on the left. I even compared weight for some unknown, bizarre reason. OEM was 2 grams less.

Soo far soo good!
Lamp Arrived as schedule. No issues with installation. Clearly not the original lamp when compared to the lamp being replaced (Sony VPLHW30ES). About 20 hours used on lamp and looks as good if not slightly dimmer than original. Great value considering original is over 300 dollars and difficult to find.

Did not work at all, our projector did not recognise it was even fitted and we attempted many times before we finally gave up! We have now bought an original instead.
