Is it made in the USA

"Bpa free, made in italy"Literally the fourth point on the product description. Italy is a country in Europe, which is not part of the USA.

I am assuming this is made of glass rather than plastic - is that correct

It might as well be plastic. They are NOT air-tight or water-tight as described by some.

Would these be good for homemade body butter with added essential oils? Is the glass hinged lid easy to open and close?

They are easy open/close latches. They should be good for body butters and lotions. I would make sure to check the seal/gasket to make sure then oils aren't eating at it (easy to replace, though!). I use mine for homemade laundry soap.

Are these jars water tight?

NO. I just returned mine. They are not water tight or air tight.
