3.5" width!!!
So I love the thumb, but unless you want to modify it, pay attention to the 3.5" width for your boom. Mine was a half inch over and it would not fit. I did not want to return it because it seemed like it would do the job. So let the modifications begin.....lol. 1. Bolt On (First 3 pics): So I cut it in half and bolted it on with longer bolts and one longer pin. The longer bolts and one longer pin would not allow me to put the thumb in the storage position but i was able to test it out. Whoooo yeah loving it!!! But not being able to put in in the storage position was bugging me and would be in the way when digging. 2. Weld On: So had a welder come out and weld it in place. It was already bolted where I needed it and I knew it worked, so he welded it right where it was. Then I took the bolts out. You can see where he welded it across the top and sides of each side bracket. I may cut the excess metal off later, but for now they serve as a good protector for the hydraulic hose connection (already took a hydraulic fluid bath since owning the excavator...lol). Any way, no I can use all the positions of the thumb and it works great. Already moved several large branches and rocks. Great quality product....just pay attention to the size details and measure twice unless you are willing to modify it like I did. Hope my modification will last forever, but if not.....it was worth it in my opinion. Modify at your own risk but you will love it. Note: I have a Bobcat Mini-Excavator 418.

Design / Self contained
For you HarborFreight Trencher/Backhoe owners This fits perfect, most likely made for it! I have parts of a EBay 18” weld on thumb. ( couldn’t get the hole thumb delivered, packaging Sucks) This thumb is completely on a different level many more thumb settings and it’s out of the way self containment. The part that bolts on is thicker than the weld on piece. Weld on thumb has to be removed or strapped on somehow if you want to dig, no out of the way self containment! and If you could feel the weight, you will get tired of that quick. This one, pull the pin shove both arms up and pin them! Super nice out of the way Design and 10 pound lighter! No loss in performance and much better quality. No question witch one I would buy after seeing both side by side! And there’s no welding, unless you want too.

Not a plug and play installation
I was aware that this backhoe thumb would require some modification to install it on my Kubota BX25 with BT601 backhoe, so I was prepared for that. However what was provided as Instructuons was simply an illustrated parts list not even an assembly diagram. I had to hunt the internet to find pictures of other installed thumbs to determine how to assemble this one. My first use of the thumb, it slid up the dipper and severed a hydraulic fitting. I had to extracted the broken fitting and order a new from Kubota. Back to the drawing board on my shim plates and finally I had a good secure installation. Now the thumb works great. I would only recommend this product if you have some knowledge of fabrication and access to metal cutting equipment. The price is attractive, but it will cost you time and materials to fit it to your backhoe.

Love it works fantastic.
Works great with my New Holland Tractor. You don't realize how important a thumb is until you don't have one. I have a small tractor so the thumb didn't exactly fit tight, but shimmed it with some metal and welded the metal to the thumb not the tractor, so it wouldn't weaken the backhoe arm (or cancel any warranty). I've picked up things so heavy with it the front came off the ground. I am not disappointed at all. Helped tear down a house, pull stumps from the ground you name it.

Thumbs up to the thumb.
I mounted the thumb on my Harbor Freight trencher/back hoe and it fit fine. While the instructions are a waste of paper, mounting it was easy. The instructions consist of an exploded view and parts list and even that was messed up. It arrived 2 days early and was in good condition. Well constructed. It will pick up everything, as advertised. I’m very happy with the purchase.

Could not firmly attach to Kubota BH70
No instructions were really included with the product. I should have known this was going to be a difficult install because they never even show a picture of this attached to the boom of a tractor. No matter what we tried, short of permanently welding it to the boom, we could not get it to not slip down and come in contact with the bucket's joint, which means the claw is way to close to the bucket for me to grab anything, let alone a log. This product might work with some tractors but I suspect they all have a similar issue. The company needs to come up with a lever clamping system that doesn't interfere with the top hydraulics and these things will sell like hot cakes. I love the powder coating and the thickness of the steel. I really wanted to like this product but its missing that one feature, that for me, drastically changes its usability. Thanks!

Well made and works well
I was surprised by the build quality. It did require a shim to fit my Woods BH6500 as my boom is a little thinner. Also had to drill some new holes in the top bracket so l bolts would clear the hydraulic cylinder when the bucket is curled all the way in. Works well and worth the money. I recently broke up a bunch of yard boulders using feathers and needed something to help moving rocks and small boulder pieces (50 to 300 pounds). Does the job pretty well versus moving stuff by hand. Little bit of a learning curve but after about 20 minutes I had it down. Will be using to make a stone wall and it will be very helpful placing those 300 pound rocks in place. Should help save my fingers.

Doesn't really fit Nortrac towable backhoe.
Decently heavy duty, but does not really fit the Nortrac towable backhoe like another review states. The thumb itself will fit on the dipper using the large supplied bolt to replace one of the bucket pivot pins, but neither the bracket nor the brace can be used without cutting and welding. The other reviewer uses a rachet strap to hold the brace on, which works but is pretty hokey-pokey. If you don't mind welding to your brand new Nortrac backhoe and have fabrication skills, this is an excellent starting point. If you want something bolt-on or minimally invasive, this isn't it.

Very well built. Just needs a little bit of adjustment when installing and shims to make tight on boom.

Basically no instructions so lots of experiments. Installed it on a 3" Kubota B21 hoe Good fit. Likely going to be a long lasting and very useful addition.

I liked the product but would not fit on my back hoe arm. To bad that it was not made to be adjustable.

I knew when I ordered it I would have to modify it to fit.The quality is very good, the steel is thick so the weight of it is around 50lbs. Very durable. So far I used it to remove roots from my 80'long hedge I cut down along with a few birch stumps.
