Great Fit. True to size. Best looking. A worthy shoe
I’ve been a fan of low top trail hiking shoes for over 20 years. Tried just about every brand in that time. As a carpenter, I wear them every day at work, on my feet, climbing ladders & scaffolding, carrying loads. After wearing the Adidas Terrex Swift For well over a month now (at work, around town & on the trail), I can confidently say they are fantastic shoes. I will 100% be buying an identical 2nd pair. FEEL: Great support and grip on the sole and tread. Light but sturdy side walls. Zero issues with the “low back” that some harp on where your Achilles is. FIT: I was a bit worried about the width, as my 10.5 size & foot width sometimes warrants an 11. Not so on this shoe. Because the toe box is NOT wrapped completely with a rubber guard (like the KEENs, SCARPA, or other models) the front of your foot has room to roam and settle. BREAK IN: Took about 4-5 days of daily wear to soften up and stretch out to full comfort. Out of the box they were a bit snug, but you just gotta keep the faith and wear them in. LOOK: These are by far the best looking trail hiking sport shoe on the market. Most other brands on the shelf at REI look like modern cars with a lot of extra colors & jagged lines (Solomon) or just plain clunky and lame (Keen, Merrill). PERFORMANCE: Great grip. Waterproofing keeps the water out reasonably well. Breathes pretty well for a Gore Tex product. BONUS: The lacing system is fantastic! Like a quick cam belt, you can go from tight & supportive to loose enough to slip right off when entering someone’s house in a snap. Same process in reverse. One of those things you never realize you liked so much until you have the ability (like controlling your car stereo with the buttons on your steering wheel!). With daily wear and moderate abuse at work, I expect to get about 6-10 months out of these shoes.

really great shoes
these are really great very sturdy feeling , not the as comfortable as their brother the ax2 but better grip on the soles, and still fairly comfortable , more sturdy , they have a hard shell type material , where as the ax 2 is much more pliable the gortex is noticeably warm , haven't been in wet or rain yet . they are just slightly looser then the ax2 fit , a bit stiffer in the upper , but over all very similar the elastic tag that keeps the speed laces in place is nice and should be on every pair of shoe in modern times . or a lace locker like the solomon has . over all great you will love them for hiking , if you want a little more casual shoe and want to save some money the ax2 will do you great , if you want something a little more sturdy and warm with the gortex go with the r2 i get the sense that adidas stooped making the r2 and the ax2 versions , and i like them more then the newer versions so i will probably stock up on both .

Simply great!
These are by far the best hiking shoe I've ever worn. Now let me make one thing clear from the start, I'm not a hiker and these shoes are about a week old, so I can't speak to their toughness and durability for hiking and I can't credibly say really anything about the shoes long term. With that said, what I can say is that they are incredibly comfortable and have a great look. The soles are not too ridged and have just the right amount of flex, not to mention the Continental rubber really grip in wet weather, that's one reason I prefer hiking shoes for the winter. The Gortex lining is also another reason I like hiking shoes. They are also extremely lightweight especially for hiking shoes which makes them a joy to walk in. So for me these shoes check all my boxes, 1) extremely comfortable 2) ridged yet flexible sole 3) non-skid tread/sole (not just a marketing ploy) 4) waterproof 5) they look really good. If I had one complaint it would be about the lacing system. I generally like the Bungie style lacing system except for the way Adidas has you pull forward the lacing mechanism to tuck under the front lace to secure it. It's somewhat awkward to do even with a small pull tab on the lace and if you don't shorten the laces, the lace draw tab bounces up on the toe area every time you walk. Shortening the laces fixes that issue but you have to first take apart the mechanism, make the cuts, put it back together and kinda hope you didn't cut them too short. Compared to the way Salomon does theirs with a small flap under the tongue (I believe they call it a "lace garage") to tuck everything under it just seems to me they could have done something similar. But in fairness, you just have to make the adjustment once and you are good to go. The bottom line is except for my minor lace issue these are really great shoes.

Decent shoe
I ordered size 12, which is my normal size and they fit as expected. As mentioned in some other reviews, the heel collar is very low and doesn't offer any ankle support. So, if you need ankle support these are not what you're looking for. Something that I didn't see mentioned anywhere is that these seem like they are lightly insulated. The inside of the shoe is a sliver material that seems to reflect the heat of you're foot back to you. Not to the point of being uncomfortable, but enough that I notice it. The shoes seem well built and are made of very stiff material, but are still comfortable. The bottoms are very gripping on the trails and other outdoor surfaces, but I did notice they were a little sketchy when I walked into a wet tiles floor in a restaurant. I have had these for about a month now and have worn them pretty much daily for work, which brings me everywhere from office buildings to job sites to rambling through the woods and they seem to be holding up. I brush the dirt off them every morning if there is any and they still look nice. Edit: 04/30/24: these have held up pretty well. I do rotate them with other seasonally appropriate footwear(winter boots, etc) but I did want to add that they are not comfortable for long drives, if that matters to you. My heels were burning when I wore these, but not with my other shoes while driving the same amount of time.

Great, durable shoe
I’ve used these shoes for almost 2.5 years now and they have been great. I’ve tried Solomon, Under Armor, Original SWAT, etc. and the Terrex have been the only ones to last longer than 7-8 months. A friend recommended these and I will never buy another work shoe as long as these are made. The shoe stayed waterproof until the laces eventually cut through the top of the shoe and the toes started to separate at about the 2 year mark. Even with the damage, they are still water resistant and my feet are never squishy in a storm unless I walk through water over ankle deep. The soles on my old ones are completely slick from all the concrete/pavement/running but still manage to have some traction. Also the break in time is only a couple of shifts and I never got a hot spot during that time. I’ll still get use out of the old pair as grass cutting shoes, so still getting my money’s worth. Size is spot on for my foot, I wear a 10.5 in almost everything. They also look nice with a uniform which is a plus.

best shoes ever
I have bought like 7 pairs of these now, not because they wear out and I NEED to keep buying them but because I am afraid they will stop making them and want to have a stock of them! they are really just great. very durable and wearing them all day for work my feet and lower back do not hurt . they do not get stinky because they aren't overly full of padding, and even when the soles are worn super thin the body of the shoe still looks decent because of the gortex material they are made of. to me this is nice because i hate looking like a grungy cruddy guy with nasty shoes but I do work in construction so my shoes are always taking a beating and getting dirty. these you can throw in the washer if they start looking TOO grungy and they come out looking brand new . also love that you do not have to mess with shoe laces, laces are a hazard in my profession and a pain to have to re tie over and over all day, these you just cinch up and go.. al in all the best shoes I have ever found.

Probably will be my most used shoe for everyday use, working out, construction, and hiking.
The shoes arrived in perfect condition. I checked all materials, stitching, edges of glued material, and lacing system. I found no errors or concerns with any of it. The design, materials, and workmanship is all top-notch. They also look very sharp. I've only worn them a couple of times so far. They're a bit stiff but for my use, I'm happy to trade a small amount of comfort for what appears to be very good durability. The lacing system is fantastic -- quick, easy, and a secured tension. I intend on using them for weightlifting, hiking, trail biking, light construction, and possibly as a general everyday casual shoe, if they break in a little. The one critical comment I'll give is that the shoe is a bit lower cut than I prefer. I use shoe inserts with almost all my shoes to customize arch support. With this shoe, I'm not able to use my usual shoe insert without it feeling like my foot could step out of the back of the shoe. If I can find an insert without anything under my heel, It'll be golden.

Great quality and style points, but fits small
I prefer the previous version of this shoe, it was a bit wider and the fit was more true. I generally wear a 1/2 size larger in any Adidas shoes, but with these I need an additional 1/2 size. without it, they are wearable, but felt very tight in the toe box and even along the sides. These shoes also offer little in the way of padding so I always add an insole. I was able to add a slim insole with my first pair, but it was obviously even tighter. Going up a size I was able to add a more comfortable insole and overall, it fit well. The shoes are very stiff out of the box, but they do loosen up over time. The quality is great though, I was pretty rough on my first pair and it lasted about 18 months... The only noticeable wear was along the back from slipping the shoe on without loosening them up. For style, these have been my favorite shoes for a long time, and I receive randoms inquiries about them regularly from strangers. Overall a great shoe, just get it sized right and add an insole for comfort. Update: The R2 just doesn't break in very well. I've also had some serious discomfort in my knees when walking in these. I love the look and quality, but they lack in comfort, even over time. I want to love them, but I had to reduce 2 stars.

Get yourself an entire +1 size, if you wear 42, get 43 directly.
If there was 100 stars, would have given 200. Best ever for long days out, harsh trips, on and off road.

Good trainers – I think the US version is slightly ...
Good trainers – I think the US version is slightly slimmer in the foot than the UK version (I got the correct size – I think the 'last' is smaller). Can't find these in the UK so I ordered a pair from the US.
