Best purchase ever.
If you’re on the fence about buying this don’t be. It is such a beautiful piece of equipment. I had an old school window ac that rusted out after 5/6 years. It was loud, it grew mold in it that I couldn’t quite always get cleaned out because it couldn’t be taken apart fully, and it often froze over grinding gears or something. It also ran too cold and the entire room was either extremely hot or ice cold. No real in between. This ac is so quiet it literally sounds like the tower room fans you get at its absolutely loudest and Hughes setting. I keep it at 72 and it’s perfect! You can leave it running 24/7 and it’ll never get hotter or colder than what you set it at. If it is on eco mode it will even turn off if the room is staying at a consistent temp and turn itself back on when it needs to cool. Big advantage over old window units you had to constantly change the temp control from 1-10! It also lets a ton more light in compared to the other unit. It was a-little more difficult to set up but it came with everything you needed to install except a Phillips head screw driver. It feels solid compared to the standard window unit. This thing makes the air smell and feel so much more clean and like my room is three times bigger! It has a swinging fan door so the air can move more around the room rather than one direction constantly. I also live in virginia and it’s always humid. This thing makes my room so comfortably dry! No more sticky humid floors! Please buy this if you’re even considering it. It’s well worth the cost. It’s literally the Ferrari of the window units 😂

Cool, Quiet & Clever – Just What I Needed!
I must admit that I was filled with anticipation about the possibility of an air conditioner that has a window with a U shape, and I have to say that I was astonished by the capabilities of this small device. I am beyond surprised; that is putting it mildly (pun most definitely intended). I was able to perceive right away how quiet it was the moment that I switched it on. In the background, it generates a calm, soft humming noise, which constitutes a substantial advancement over the cacophony that my prior unit produced. The design of this product incorporates a distinctive U-shaped structure that sets it apart from other products. It lets the window close all the way except for a small gap, which keeps out both outside noise and heat. The circulation of the air in my room is not only steady but also energizing, and it cools down quickly. The sophisticated control capabilities are among the characteristics that are the most attractive. I think that the ability to regulate the temperature with my phone is a fantastic feature. I don't have to get up in the middle of the night anymore. Furthermore, it helps me to monitor the quantity of energy that I use, and I have noticed that my expenses are lower this summer. Getting everything prepared and ready to go was an extremely easy process. I don't know how to do a lot of things, but I was able to figure out how to install it on my own in under an hour. Everything seemed to be well constructed and of good quality, and the instructions were simple to follow. The product that I purchased is something with which I am generally very pleased. This air conditioner boasts a modern design, is very energy efficient, and is physically attractive, in addition to performing exceptionally well in metropolitan areas. If avoiding noise and trouble is a priority for you and you want to stay cool, this is a fantastic solution!

Runs quite and cooling down really fast in my house
I recently purchased the Midea MAW08V1QWT U-Shaped AC Window Air Conditioner, and I can confidently say this is one of the best investments I’ve made for my home comfort. This particular unit is the most updated model, and you can really tell that Midea has listened to customer feedback and improved it in several important ways. Setup & Installation: The installation process was surprisingly easy compared to traditional window AC units. The U-shaped design is truly innovative—it allows you to keep your window mostly functional and lets in natural light while still providing a very secure and stable fit. The included installation kit made things much smoother, and I was able to set it up without needing extra tools or outside help. The design also makes it feel safer since the unit locks into place much more firmly than older box-style window ACs. Noise Level: One of the standout features is how quiet this AC runs. I’ve owned several window air conditioners in the past, and most of them were so loud that they made it hard to sleep, watch TV, or even have a conversation nearby. With this updated model, the noise level is impressively low—it’s almost like having central air conditioning. Even on higher fan speeds, the sound is more of a gentle hum than the typical loud buzzing you’d expect. This has made it absolutely perfect for a bedroom or a home office. Cooling Performance: The cooling process is fast and efficient. Within just a few minutes of turning it on, I could already feel the difference in the room temperature. It evenly distributes cool air and maintains a comfortable environment without constantly cycling on and off. I’ve tried it on both humid and very hot days, and it’s been able to keep up perfectly. For medium to large rooms, this AC definitely gets the job done quickly. Draining & Maintenance: Another big plus is that the drainage system works very well. Unlike some older models where you constantly have to worry about water buildup or dripping, this updated design handles condensation efficiently. I haven’t had to deal with any leaks or messy situations so far. The filters are also easy to remove and clean, which makes regular maintenance simple and stress-free. Smart Features & Convenience: This unit comes with remote control and smart home compatibility, which has been really convenient. Being able to adjust the temperature from my phone or with the remote means I don’t have to get up in the middle of the night or while working. The controls are intuitive, and the display is clear and easy to read. Overall Experience: I’m extremely happy with this purchase. To sum it up: Most updated model with noticeable improvements Easy to set up with secure U-shaped design Extremely quiet operation Fast and efficient cooling Draining system works perfectly Low maintenance and easy cleaning If you’re looking for a window AC that combines modern design, quiet operation, and powerful cooling, I highly recommend the Midea U-Shaped AC. It’s well worth the investment, and I honestly wish I had bought it sooner.

Nice and quiet
Got this for my kitchen and it works great. It cools down the space pretty fast, even when I’m cooking, and it’s much quieter than I expected.Installation took a bit of time, but it wasn’t too difficult and feels secure once set up. I also like the design — it looks cleaner than older window units and doesn’t feel as bulky.Love that it comes with a remote and app control too, makes it really easy to adjust settings without getting up. The controls are pretty straightforward and easy to figure out, and switching modes is quick.Airflow feels strong and consistent, and it does a good job keeping the temperature stable. It also doesn’t shake or make weird noises like some older units I’ve used before.I’ve been using it for a few days now and it’s been working really well so far.

New Models improved/modified (not recalled units) - but 2/4 have failed and been returned.
***8/21/2025*** My 30 day window has closed and an issue with a THIRD Midea Ac has cropped up. I’m posting a video but it doesn’t do the soul piercing buzzing justice. It pierces the ears from 50 feet away outside like a lower pitched mosquito. Hopefully You can see the copper coil vibrating. Seems to be primarily on a low energy usage. It ramped up and went away, but my recalled units didn’t do this. Midea is now 3/4 for bad machines. When I replace next year, it will be an lg unless something better is on the market. This is hugely disappointing as I had good luck before the recall. ****** ***8/18/2025*** I really love the wattage information provided in the app, however I'm running into frustrations that lead me to drop another star to 2 stars. I had assumed that due to poor insulation that these machines just weren't enough to cool my home at the designated sqft when it was 90 degrees out, as the machines would slip. What I am finding is that the machines prioritize energy efficiency over hitting the set temperature number. If I set the temperature to 68, it'll maintain around 72-74. If I set to 66, I might get around 71-72. If I set at 60 I can get about 66 (can't get lower and it'll sit around 700-900watts, still not maxed) only if I also use the flashcool setting. When I look at the wattage, I find the machine seems to prefer to run 300-600 watts. Only VERY occasionally (and sometimes randomly) do I see it hit over 900 watts. (capacity is over 1000). Why is the wattage important, the wattage=cooling and so instead of a 12000 BTU piece of equipment, a vast majority of the time my machine is running 6-8000 BTU equivalent. When I buy a tool, I want it to work. I appreciate the energy efficiency, but trying to game the machines to cool, is frustrating. The ieco setting is complete trash. If it does anything, it prioritizes economy EVEN MORE than a set number. Instacool doesn't have an immediate impact when observing the wattage, yet overtime it holds the temperature better than without it. I'd be worried about boosting with it all the time, but as I'm rarely breaking 700-800 watts using it, that seems well within what the machine is SUPPOSED to do. My guess is that the software is just bad at managing the machines' temperature output. I could reasonably see some slippage on economy as the user is identifying that's where the value is for them, but if I set a temperature, I want to hit the temperature. If I'm using too much energy doing so, I can always increase the temperature to reduce my draw. That's not how these machines seem to work. Lastly, I've seen a lot of reports of a high pitch squeal that I hadn't noticed or didn't have on other machines. My last replacement has it. If you've ever had your ears ring, it's like that but faint and there. It seems like something I'd notice with the other machines, and I didn't notice it previously. The machine that's doing it is puling only around 125 watts cooling right now, so maybe it appears at lower usage? This is new, but I felt worth mentioning. I kinda regret doing the recall refund now because I've had so many issues that I didn't have with the older machines. Although the cooling issues existed, they seem worse now and I didn't fully realize that the machines were gimped. After a lot of research about alternatives and comparisons, I better understand now how power = BTU and the efficiencies and what they should all be at a 15 CEER rating. Yes I'm getting efficiency, but I need to buy a fourth unit that wouldn't be needed if the machines actually cooled to their full potential and I wasn't doing work arounds to try to force the appropriate power draws. Also, when doing research about alternative solutions I discovered that this unit is lighter than the 85lbs option for the only equivalent replacement on the market, because a vast majority of moving parts inside are plastic. I've been hesitant about purchasing the competitor because initial price is 100 more, the efficiency is supposed to be the same, and I don't relish lifting an additional 25lbs up my stairs as the size makes things extremely awkward. My frustration with midea is pretty high right now. I want machines that work. These machines would be amazing if they could do that, and I'm loosing faith. ***Update 8/15/2025*** I purchased 3 AC's from Amazon to replace my recalled units. 1 is working fine. 1 had a serious rattle noise and then popped the 15 amp GFI circuit it was on. (My wife told me it stopped working. That wasn't the case but the noise it made on the exterior side was BAD, so returned. The previous model didn't pop anything and it wasn't particularly hot that day). 1 just stopped cooling. It's about 90 outside (AC shows 100+) and is set for 68, not an issue with the past AC. The room however is 77 degrees and climbing. It shows it's only pulling about 250 watts and should be pulling around 600-800 watts to cool the space (based on the previous recalled model and what it HAD been doing). ***update*** This unit seems to be working a fine (ignoring rattle) after a reboot AND resetting my router. I also lodged a complaint through the app. I don't know if all these things helped or one of them. Either way I'm still returning****** I have a fourth that I purchased from another store because they had a better deal and my downstairs needed a little extra cooling when it breaks 90 degrees and to reduce strain on that AC which was working hard. These units all sat for over 24 hours before installing. I don't know if the issue is because they rushed out replacement units for the recall, or what. My older units had zero issues and were fantastic. The two remaining units are working perfectly so far although will let the temperature slip instead of ramping up wattage to maintain the requested temp. The ieco mode seems like complete junk and I can't recommend using it as it'll let the temperature in the room slip quite a bit over what you want. Scheduling no longer lets you go "10am-6pm, then 6pm-10pm" you have to go "10am to 5:59pm then 6pm to 10pm" which is not ideal.. Additionally: When entering the app they seem to turn on the LED and sound requiring me to turn those two options back off. Some other settings also seem to jump, and i'm not sure why. This only happens when I pop into the app. The good: These contain plugs for the drain. These show the wattage usage which is AWESOME! I love this feature. When the machines work, I love them. I'm frustrated that I've run into so many that seem to not be working. Overall, I don't know that I'll replace the broken one with a Midea unit. I give this 3 stars because when they're good, they're pretty darn good and the 15 CEER rating is great. Yet, doing returns is frustrating and a pain. Also, amazon defaults to crediting the account instead of the card and buried that option meaning your credit card doesn't get refunded if you miss that detail. I have more to say about the return process because it's gone down hill, but long story short, it's not ideal. ******* I’ve owned the past Midea model and took advantage of the prime sale deal to replace under warranty. First year use tends to be quiet. Following years some units get noisier. I’m told they’re still quieter than other windows. The AC unit I opened has plugs and holes for drainage. Finally. The app has an added feature for the newer models that tracks power usage. I love this as I have three, soon to be four of these units. It helps plan and manage my electric bill balanced against comfort. There’s a button to get cold fast (not the boost which I think only ramps up fan speed. The rapid cool button uses another 100w of power, approximately. The ac took 2-5 minutes to get cold and blow out chilly air. It started cool. Once going, is very nice. No grill protection and pulling these AC units out of the box I've ALWAYS had some damage to those delicate fins/whatever they are. I recommend cutting a side for easy access and to avoid adding more damage. They really need some kind of protection, but obviously that costs money. The annoying: the QR code did not work for fast connection. Dumb. The app requires exact location. Creepy. Electrical usage for those new to Midea: I found my average use was between 500-600w. If it’s really hot and struggling I had readings that reached almost 1000w. My usage is a the second floor 400sqft space with poor insulation. A 500 sqft space with NO insulation. A space that is about 700 sqft on the first floor. (Multiple rooms). The apartment part of the house that has no insulation struggles to keep up with the sun beating down on it and when it hits over 86-90. I precool the space to bring the temp down at 5:30am and my wife starts work (we use the apartment as her office) about 8:30-9am in a cool space. The heat catches up about 4pm-6pm. Overall the machines do decently well. If you have insulation, the machines I’ve received will definitely perform to spec. The 700 sqft space I’ll be purchasing one more unit as the really hot sunny days the unit can’t keep up. Also I hope both machines will work less hard and get a nice balance of added cool vs electrical usage. I’d recommend these. My only other complaint is that the bottom of the unit now has exposed machine screws to snag on bedding and the bottom has various valleys instead of a bottom with a single plane so the water cold EASILY into the back. Midea created an amazing ac unit but really flunked some basic details. 5 stars is for the energy efficiency and the noice level.

Midea vs. GE, Midea wins but could be better
This unit is great but it could be excellent. I purchased one several years ago and unfortunately it broke this year, so it lasted about two years. Not good. But fortunately because of the recall I'm being reimbursed for it anyway. But because they were on manufacturing hiatus earlier this summer I decided to try the GE, the runner up in the Wirecutter review. I wrote a detailed review for that GE unit and, in summary, it was the worst piece of junk I'd ever purchased in my life - not just the first unit, but the second replacement unit which was ALSO defective. If you are comparing the two, it's worth knowing the GE unit is literally 30 lbs heavier than this Midea unit (the largest BTU rating units). The Midea unit is more compact. The interface and app are an order of magnitude better. It's quiet and vibrates probably 100x less than the GE unit (I'm not exaggerating). The GE unit is not quiet, by any stretch of the imagination, while putting out 10x LESS cold air than the Midea unit. I'm not exaggerating. The Midea is rated for something like 550 sq ft; I use one unit to cool my entire modestly sized two bedroom house. The GE is more expensive, heavier, and just doesn't work. Good luck getting into and out of the box to send for a return. Buy the Midea. What Midea could improve upon is some aspects of the design, especially the foam, the weird wing things in the middle of it, etc. They should take GE's idea of an upside down U shaped design, but just do it right. Like literally an upside down version of this Midea unit would be the best. Less foam cut outs, a flat edge across the top where the window rests, more window left free for viewing. This is the future of good window unit design. And also, frankly, I'd pay 2x for a unit that is built to last. Right now my choice is between a $10,000+ central unit, which would last 20-30 years, or an amazing designed unit that is obviously not built to last nearly as long. I'd pay $600, 800, even $1000 for a window unit that was built for longevity. And that's another point. Space age materials abound and AC units still weigh a ridiculous amount. If Elon Musk spent 10 minutes on the design he'd cut out half that weight. People move these things out of their windows in the winter. Make it easy. Make it lighter. Make it so that people other than in-shape younger men can lift them. And finally, the foam, always with the sticky foam. Ugh. I'll say it again: PEOPLE TAKE THESE OUT IN THE WINTER. Don't give me foam that sticks all over the damn place and rips and isn't reusable. This is not an impossible problem to solve! Better design would mean less foam, and better designed foam would mean no need to have a sticky mess after the first season. My hack is I just leave the backing on so I can pull it out, but I'd rather there were no backing at all, just straight foam on both sides that I could wedge in there, so it seals properly. It's not like I'm opening and closing the window all the time. Just get rid of the glue! It sucks. That said, it's still the best unit on the market. It's vastly quieter than a typical window unit AC. Vastly superior to the GE unit that is 50% more expensive and heavy. It's truly efficient. And it rips when you want it to and brings down the temperature quite fast for its little size. If Midea stepped on their game on the quality - and warranty - I'd imagine others like myself would be willing to pay more. Right now it's a Toyota, make it a Mercedes. Self-driving cars now exist - let's see if the engineers can figure out how to build a durable window AC in 2025. This isn't a moonshot.

Summer comfort
I've been using this Midea window A/C in my bedroom and it has done a great job so far. It cools the room quickly, even when it's hot outside, and keeps a steady temperature without constantly cycling on and off. The noise level is surprisingly low—just a soft hum that actually makes it easy to sleep with. The controls are simple and the digital display is bright and easy to read from across the room. I like that it responds well to small adjustments and doesn't blast freezing air all at once. Installation was straightforward, and once set up, it sealed well and didn't let in outside noise or air. Even with the unit sitting close to my bed, it's comfortable and doesn't blow directly on me unless I angle the vents that way. Overall, it's a reliable, quiet unit that cools great. Definitely worth it for a bedroom or small living space.

Far superior to old style window units, but won't fit EVERY window without some minor mods
I bought the 8,000 BTU model. This thing is super quiet compared to a new Frigidaire regular window unit of equal size. It's as quiet as the mini-split I have in the back of the house. But, it has a small squirrel cage fan like a mini split, and those things are a pain to clean. It comes with updated rubber drain plugs to better drain the water from the rear of the unit. I don't understand why you even need the plugs. All my other window units just have open holes. I bet this unit would work fine if you just left out the rubber drain plugs and left the open holes. If they were worried about bugs getting in, bugs would just come in the side breathing slits in the sides of the outside cabinet. I had to use a small 1"x3/4" strip of wood against the inside window ledge of my old house to use as a spacer to make the window fit in the center of the "U" gap. It's an old house in which I replaced the windows with metal frame dual pane windows. It ended up like a flat ledge window with a metal frame that stuck up about 1" There is no way the Midea engineers could come up with something to blindly fit EVERY window out there. So, I couldn't fault them for that. But, they need to mention that mods may be necessary for some odd applications in older non-standard windows. But, you can tell a lot of engineering went into this unit, and other than the mod I had to make, installation was easy. I also measured from the outside sidearms to try and get the mounting frame centered in the window. Somehow, I managed to get it about 1.5" off-center. No big deal. But, you may want to double-check this before you cut all the foam insulating pieces. Overall, this unit seals and insulates better than any other window unit I've seen. But, there are still few small cracks to fill before your done. Also, the rubber feet that sit against the outside wall can be reversed if you have an inconsistent surface like vinyl siding. This thing blows COLD! Even on high fan speeds, it blows COLD compared to my other window unit. I like the way you can aim the air both up and down and side to side. You can even make the up-down motion oscillate. It comes with a remote. It has a timer, and it's also wifi capable. You can download an app to control it. It's also "Alexa" capable. I'll update this review if I encounter any "surprises." Otherwise, this unit appears to be well worth the money, and far superior to old style window units.
