Pegasus Hobbies 1/48 Martian War Machine Kit PGH9001

Kit lends itself to modification with leds and other effects. I fabricated the tripod yes, even in the 1950s film these were taken from, the craft did not fly, it walked, as per HG Wells own vision) and installed leds in the heat ray, the skeleton rays and the nose area, as well as the 3 "electronic beam" generators on the bottom of the War Machine. The entire kit was then wired to a remote receiver, making it remote control. Mind you, a build like this is not for beginners, although the original kit is quite an easy build, if your happy enough with that. I have since sold that build and am in the process of an upgraded build, with more leds and a sound card featuring the opening speech from Orson Wells' Mercury theater radio presentation, as well as the sounds of the heat ray, skeleton rays and probe. The Tripod is extremely complicated, housing all the battery systems and leds, plugs, sound card and remote receiver. This build will also be auctioned upon completion.

This is the one to buy....its got a great lighting kit made by Voodoofx for about $60.00 .....warning !!!! you will need some slight modifacation to install lighting kit..Do not paint before you get the instructions from the lighting kit as there are areas to be masked and painted before you can put it together..The lighting kit really makes this baby just like the ones in the movie...It has a programmed circut board that makes the eyepiece pulse and then fire and the green lights dim and fade then the whole thing starts over in its program...its very realto the film version..Kudos to Randy at Voodoo fx for the amazing work that went into making the lighting kit .The only area that really is a little bit of work is the cobra neck to the eye..It takes some sanding and removal of plastic pins and braces in the neck..take your time and you will be able to make this baby a real showpiece..this thing only needs glue is the cobra neck assembly and the eyepiece...all the rest is capped by the green lighting pieces to hold it together.So if you need to get back inside of the body where the board and lights are mounted it is super easy to get to..wonderful piece of work on this thing.. Pegasus rules for putting this out ...they also make a 1/8 size martian figure if you want the whole works....It also has a lighting kit by Voodoofx for the Martians eye and the smashed probe unit..but its a little more work to light as the martian is mostly solid vinyl and needs some drilling out to wire, but the torso is hollow where the board and battery go..its just the head and probe that are a little more work..enjoy...everyone should have a hobby!!!!

It's a beautiful kit, but the latest run of the model is molded in dark gray plastic instead of the translucent white that was used in previous editions. That means that if you're intending to light the model with the VooDooFX lighting kit or other kits, you'll need to do a lot more "surgery" on the model than the lighting kits tell you. For example, the large area behind the green "lens" up front used to be white and usable to diffuse the LED lighting. Now, you have to completely cut out the plastic and construct a replacement section out of styrene. It's not hugely difficult, but it's a lot more work than the original kit. Still, it's a beautiful model and I can't wait to complete it.UPDATE: I originally gave this four stars because of the gray plastic. But it's such an easy build and there's sooooo much you can do with it. Have just now finished building my third one and am going to make a diorama next. One is lit with the VoodooFX board, one has the TenaControl sound and light kit, and the third is crashed. This is a photo of my actual build, in front of a rear-projection of a Chicago fire. I'm not saying it was aliens...but it was aliens!

The War of the Worlds Martian War Machine model is really cool especially with the light kit. The light kit is available at VooDooFx on line. It is expensive but worth it. It brought the model to life. You have to make a number of alterations to the model kit to make it work and a number of soldering connections, all part of the hobby and fun building it. It took me quite a while to make all of the changes but it was worth it. I added a few of my own ideas to emphasize the lights. On the wings and the lights below I cut out the plastic to make the lights stand out more. A Dremel tool worked out great for all of these modifications. For whatever color you decide to paint your kit I recommend a high gloss clear finish to finish off, makes it look more like in the original in the 1953 movie. The stand is a little wobbly so find a safe place to put it when you are done. Have fun and enjoy your hobby.

Simple to build. Added led lights and switch in base. Looks really cool for sci fan fans.

Since the first time I saw "The War of the Worlds" as a kid, I have wanted a model of the Martian War Machine.I've seen MANY versions over the years, most either too small, too big, or WAY TOO expensive, or some combination thereof. I had seen this one in a local shop for $45, pricey, but less than others I have seen. While looking for other things, I stumbled across Best Service Stores, and there it was, FOR $20 !!!! Needless to say, I ordered it right then and there.The model is really nice, thick plastic, well formed pieces, and the best part is there are a couple of places that make a lighting kit for this specific kit !!If you are looking for an excellent kit copy of this famous ship, you WILL NOT be disappointed.

Brilliant simple kit which I intend to modify with l.e.ds. Cleverly designed and produced.

It's a simple build that goes together quite well although I haven't put the stand together yet and a lot of people complained about that so we'll see. I can always drill the holes out more if there's a problem. Overall great but the plated one will always look better.

Arrived quick, very easy to make it look just like the picture, including the earth stand for it. Very happy
