Cheap internal parts.
I purchased this unit less than 3 weeks ago, and of course it breaks on one of the hottest days so far. It worked well till the AC part stopped working and it started pumping out HOT air, but come on! I JUST got the unit it seems like. Nothing better than cheap crap from China. Boo! I took extra precautions to be careful with the machine, but that wasn't enough. Update: I figured out that about 8 of the fan blades for the rear exhaust broke off inside the machine and got the fan stuck. No hot air exhaust equals no working AC. I wish it was built better for how much I paid for it. It worked well for the short time it actually worked, but I wouldn't recommend anyone buys this unit.

Helping keep cool
Purchased portable A/C to replace window unit (eyesore). Easy to move romm to room and put away when not in use. We use it to assist our central A/C in the summer, when wife cooks (a lot) and as backup incase power goes out, we can hook it to portable generator. So far works great. Cools room quickly and is quiet. We have it in the room with TV and we do not have to turn volume up real loud. Does have the normal hum of any A/C. I will write back in a few months to update on performance and quality. We live in the south, so we run our A/C's in December. almost year later. Still working great. use it constantly. we live in N.O. so we do not have long winters looking at possible purchasing a second one.

Great A/C heat BUT
This really puts off the A/C and Heat but my problem is that it also uses the air in the building for reheating and A/C...the problem is I have a small exterior office and since it's heavily insulated it sucks air in from the recessed light fixture which brings in heat/cold from outside. However, I must say it works GREAT. If my ceiling didn't have recessed lighting it would be perfect. If I were buying again I'd buy one that sucked in the air from outside.....I ended up buying a window unit and will use this one in the main house.

Cools well but other problems
This air conditioner works very well for a small space, but it must be vented out the window. That isn't such a problem but the plastic parts do not fit properly in the window. There is an expander but it is a different height than the other piece so there are multiple gaps which allow heat in from outside. Defeats the purpose. Not sure if we will return it because of this. Also, the vent hose attaches to this piece that sits in the window and the screws do not hold it properly. It keeps popping out. Frustrating :( I knew it was too good to be true.

Not what I epxected from past Haier appliances
I have owned two similar units for 9 years with no issues. I wanted to get new models to replace the old ones. The first night, I tried to use the heating option, and the unit just blew frigid air from the back opening. I called Haier the next morning, and was told that, unlike the older models, the new units must be vented to the outside throughout the winter months in order for the heating option to work efficiently. The provided plastic window covering does not close off my entire opening. This would mean having to have an open window throughout winter months just to attempt to efficiently heat the room. This was never explained in the online product specs or in the user manual. SInce I returned the item because it was not what I needed (or "no longer wanted" - I did not note any clearer reason option), and it was determined to not be the fault of Amazon, I must pay the $63.00+ (and the $6.00 pick-up fee) for having the unit in my home for just one night. I have learned that it is not advisable to purchase appliances online. If the item is not clearly described (so that you don't realize that you cannot use the item until after it arrives), you are penalized. April 10, 2013 FOLLOW-UP: Amazon agreed that the item was not accurately described by the manufacturer, and that the online and user manual specifications were misleading. Amazon has kindly refunded the total cost - including shipping charges - to me.

works great!
I have a 500 sq foot 1 bedroom apartment and it works great! i have it in the living room and use a small fan to get more airflow to the bedroom. only thing i had trouble with is the window kit. i have a 51" window and it comes with a 36'' kit. so i had to order a longer one for 50 bucks. kinda upsetting after what i payed. great AC unit though

As Others Mentioned, Terrible Product and even more Terrible Company!!!
First off, let me just give you a bit of general advice towards purchasing a portable AC. If you are debating between a portable and a traditional in window unit, save yourself the headache and stick with the in-window unit. They don't come close to cooling your room like a traditional in-window unit does. Get a portable ONLY if you 1)Can't install a window/wall unit and/or 2) Already have central air and this is just to SUPPLEMENT the cooling. I have a lower btu in-window unit now and its 10x more powerful than the higher btu portable. I had to point the portable right at me to stay cool, otherwise it will only cool the direction it is pointed at. Secondly, in regards to Haier, like others mentioned, they truly don't care about their customer and are only concerned about the bottom line. Not only that, they downright engage in fraud as both my first unit (which I bought online and came DOA) and second unit (which I bought from Sam's Club) BOTH had the inner coils rusted and bent and other scuff marks across the unit which lead me to conclude they are re-selling defective/refurbished units as Brand New. This maybe something that Haier America (the US distributor of Haier)is to blame for vs. the actual company. Regardless, it's downright fraudulent and even the attendant that took back my unit at Sam's club was shocked that the unit clearly appeared like it was used for months despite the fact that I got it the previous week. As far as their customer service when you call, as other mentioned, they are plain incompetent and give you the impression that they are just reading off a script rather than understanding/empathizing with your situation. This is not surprising considering their poor employee reviews on Glassdoor. Furthermore, the 3rd party repair center that they engage (I believe they were called Abe Repair or something) was just as deceptive and fraudulent as Haeir was. These scu$$bags call you at 6 am in the morning and pretend like they at your place and no one is there to answer the door so they had to leave and ask you to re-schedule even they never came out at all. Check out more about Hair here: [...] Due to the above experience, I WILL NEVER EVER PURCHASE A HAEIR PRODUCT AGAIN.
