Edifier R1280T Speakers - Exceptional Sound at an Affordable Price
The Edifier R1280T speakers have been a fantastic addition to my setup. These bookshelf speakers deliver rich, clear sound with impressive depth for their price range. The 4-inch bass driver and 13mm silk dome tweeter provide a well-balanced audio experience that works perfectly for both music and movies. The sound is detailed without being overwhelming, offering a warm, natural tone that fills the room. One of the standout features is the adjustable tone control on the side panel, allowing me to fine-tune the bass and treble to my preference. The remote control is also a convenient feature, making it easy to adjust volume or switch input sources without getting up. The build quality is solid, with a classic wood finish that looks stylish and professional in any setting. The speakers are compact enough to fit on my desk but still produce excellent sound quality for a variety of content. For the price, the Edifier R1280T speakers are an excellent value, offering clear, balanced sound and flexibility in a beautiful design. They’re ideal for anyone looking for high-quality desktop speakers without breaking the bank. Highly recommended!

I am amazed at the clarity
Purchased these after a lot of deliberation between these and the R1700BT. For my kind of liking, I preferred the more spatial sound of the 1280s. I saw a lot of one to one sound reviews on youtube but each time ended preferring these. These are tiny in size but powerful and more than big in sound for their size and use them as my desk top speakes. Being powered, these are plug and play and would form an ideal desktop companion to your pc's. I am amazed at the clarity. I own a bigger set up of Bose 301 + Norge Concert Gold amp. But... But I love these little darlings more due to the clarity. Unfortunately the bose and norge combination is harsh on the treble and over emphasizes the bass. I am also amazed at the consistency of the frequencies both at low and high volumes. Even at full volumes the bass is tight and treble is crystal clear. What hooked me to these speakers was the ability to throw out spatial sound. I use them as a stereo pair and am amazed at their sound stage and presence in my 12x15 ft room. I use logitech bt adapater on one of the RC plugs and have the other for my radio. The pc is hooked via bt to the logitech. There is no need of any switches to switch the inputs. One can play both sources simultaneously. If you are looking for a near field speaker with emphasis on clarity then these suit this need pretty well. You will be amazed at the way these small speakers produce such clear notes which are in the range of around 80% to the notes from speakers around 3-5 times the price of these. That is why these are compared with some of the best bookshelf speakers, although not really in their range. These can pretty well be used for a small home party too as they can get just that loud too. The remote is quiet handy if you use them as TV speakers and sit away from them. The only cons are not related to the sound but the smell these emanate out of the box, the radio interference they have on my radio fm reception, but with an external antenna the problem is solved. If you are confused and ask my opinion between these and the 1700s I will suggest go for the 1280 due to their very high sound to price index. Edit on 4-june-2019- they work fine even today. However I am not sure if it is my ears or what but they sound harsh as they reproduce notes clearly and at near field my ears ache please note.

Boosted bass sounds muddy. Sound improves a lot with equalizer. Not returnable, unless defective.
How's the sound Quality?: The midrange is clean, however the higher frequencies and the lower frequencies are not that clear. In slow paced music, the speaker sounds great. But for fast-paced genres like rock etc., it sounds muddier, which forces me to switch it off. In my Koss porta-pro, these songs sound really sweet, but Edifier R1280T gives me headache with them. Remote Control: Works only if you point it directly towards the left speaker. It doesn't respond in all directions unlike some other remotes like that of Tatasky. Is it value for money?: I really don't know. But, given the so many great online reviews, it could be. Something better than these speakers would actually cost a lot more. Return policy: Even though Amazon says, it is returnable, it is not. It can only be returned in case, you received a defective/ damaged product. This does not make sense, as one would ask for replacement in that case. One would like to return only if he is not satisfied with the sound quality. There is no other reason possible. This is why, this product is actually NOT returnable. So, if you are buying, make sure, that you know how it sounds, or be prepared to accept it, however it sounds. If you can buy offline, please do, because, in that case, you can listen in person, before purchasing. I had inquired from both the sellers Edifier online retailer, as well as ProAudioHome. Both agreed, that I can return speakers on this basis, but, Amazon denied my return request. Edit: Review after 20 days: If you use equalizer in your laptop/phone/audio device and turn down base by 3dB for all frequencies below 240Hz, this speaker sounds crystal clear. All the muddy base is gone. You can keep the knobs for bass and treble on the speaker in the middle. No need to change that.

The best quality speakers in this price range
Its the best bang for the buck. The sound quality is very good (perhaps the best one can get in this budget..I haven't listened to better quality speakers in this price range..let me know if you have). Doesn't sound at all like 2.1 computer speakers which always compensate for lack of clarity by having loud, boomy and just-plain-noisy bass. It gets loud enough to be adequate for large rooms and halls (of course in halls you have to atleast cover up the walls in drapes so that sound doesn't reflect and create echoes). For audiophiles, they need to sit at right, sweet spot or try adjusting the speaker to various positions, to hear the best stereo effect from both speakers. I have listened to a lot of 2.1 cheaper computer speakers during my college years, but this just straight up beats them. And not just in clarity but in the bass department too. These small looking speakers have surprisingly very tight, punchy and deep bass. Of course it isn't as deep as an external subwoofer system would be, but speaker systems with a subwoofer in this price range lack the tightness and punch (which makes the bass enjoyable in the first place). Still the bass in this is more than needed. So much that I can feel the rumble of a car engine when its revved. That too even at very low volume levels! Needless to say it handles high frequencies without any sweat. Instrumentals sound great, and even better when I turn the bass knob down and the treble up. My suggestion: If you have the budget for it, don't hesitate even a bit. Rather you will be pleasantly satisfied if it even falls a little outside your budget. Other pros: The wires are long enough. Plus the remote comes in handy sometimes. Cons: No Bluetooth on this version (Bluetooth version is costlier than it should be at the moment of writing this review). So I had to buy a Logitech bluetooth receiver for around ₹1-1.5k. Plus it would have been a good idea to have a mechanically controlled volume knob instead of digital, so that one can pinpoint the lowest and highest volume settings.

VFM entry level audiophile grade speakers!
These speakers are just highly underrated to not be on every audiophile's radar. The soundstage and the treble are highlights on this one. The clarity is at another level when compared with conventional PC speakers. You can hear the strings rubbing across the fingers when you hear a guitar in your music and that is the level of clarity you can expect from these speakers. Do not be mistaken to believe the bass won't be as good in the absence of a sub-woofer. The bass on this thing is plenty for any audio needs and goes a great way to thump up your windows and chairs. All in all great value for money and you just cannot go wrong with this one. Great product from Edifier who definitely have new found respect in my eyes. Cheers! PS: I have been using these for a few months now and I am amazed with the quality and performance. My choice of music is mostly classical, jazz and instrumentals along with some psychedelics. Clarity of dialogues and music is simply great for the price on offer.

It packs a punch! But you have to work for it.
OK - you need to work with it a little. It is a surprisingly powerful pair of speakers. I REALLY wish it had Bluetooth, but then again, I am not sure I miss it. Why? Because on my work table, this sounds like a dream. I have bought 2.1 speakers, home theatres, and higher-end 2.0s. Yes, the F&D T60x is a LOT more powerful, but then again, that weighs about 9kg for each speaker, while these weigh less than 5kg together, not to mention that the edifiers are about one-fifth the size of the Fenda T60X. Not to get ahead of myself here, but you have to: 1. Allow the speakers to break in - they'll take a week. 1.5. Use lower gauge (thicker) speaker wire - you'll get decent stuff by Amazon basics. 2. Resist pumping the bass to the fullest - it'll only make the bass boom. For each type of room, there's a sweet spot of great sound. 3. Try not to play them loud. They stand at 9.5" tall - you bought a pair of GREAT speakers, but they are small - which means their drivers are small, which in turn means that they won't perform well if you keep pushing them past their limits. Find a song with a good spread of frequencies - from lows to mids to highs - play it at different volumes, find your sweet spot, and voila! You have your speakers set up. 4. Just because they seem a little expensive doesn't make them "loud" speakers. They perform brilliantly in a smallish room - about 120-150 square feet at the most. 5. Remember - it has a subwoofer out. Do Not forget that. Connect a sub if you want to push the speakers - YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. Well, if you're buying the edifier and a subwoofer, you gotta ask yourself if you'd rather not buy something bigger, instead - the edifier sub and the R1280T together cost less than the F&D T60. But I'll tell you this. The R1280T actually sounds better. DESPITE the size difference. Strange, but it's actually true. I bought the T60 - I bought the R1280T for a friend. I gave her my T60 and kept this. That's actually how good this little minx is.

DEAD ON ARRIVAL.
I've read other great reviews of this speaker, but it's a shame that mine was DEAD ON ARRIVAL. I was stuck in another city for a few weeks due to COVID lockdown, and by the time I reached home and realized it was dead, the return window had closed. The speakers feel really quality, but can't say the same about internals. Beware, I'd advise people to test immediately upon receiving it and return it if its faulty.
