Will this drive work in a Zmodo D9014BH?

I am not sure. I wasn't able to find anything on the D9014BH. I suspect, if it has the SATA connection, that it will work just fine. I am using it on a Zmodo KT7116EC, 16 Channel and it has worked great. I am thinking about getting another for my Home Theater PC.

is this drive formatted to operate a Tivo and if so is it compatible with Series 2 Toshiba model SR-TX20?

The drive comes unformatted. It can be used in a TiVo if you have the TiVo software to load (e.g. MFStools) or can clone your existing Series 2 disk using something like MFSlive.

Will this disk work as a regular desktop EXTERNAL hard disk drive?

This drive has a SATA interface which is usually an internal interface. It could work as an external drive if you have a drive enclosure that converts USB to SATA but even then it's the wrong drive for the application. This drive is meant to be used for recording and streaming video 24/7 and does not have a lot of the error detection and correction functions normally used on a computer drive.
