Works well
At first I thought the flashlight was broken, but you just have to let it charge for a little bit. Otherwise these have been reliable, the motion sensor is quick and connection (HomeKit) has been stable. I have not tried the app, but since it is HomeKit enabled, there is no need. I initially bought one to test it, but I recently ordered and received 3 more, all work fine. Also the newest set did not have the big Red Cross logo, so they are not as ugly.

Overpriced unreliable unsupported night light
Had high hopes for this as a HomeKit compatible sensor, but it is completely unreliable for that purpose. Despite switching my Wi-Fi over to 2.4 GHz the unit would never connect; more than half the time trying over a dozen times, the iOS home app would fail to find it after reading the accessory code. The Eton apps are also worthless since they require registration and failed to recognize previous login created on Etón’s web site.During the initial charging period, the Blackout Buddy became too hot to touch, so hot I was concerned it might actually catch on fire — luckily that did not occur. This is the worst-performing allegedly HomeKit-compatible device I have tried because it repeatedly failed to even allow me to add it to HomeKit.So far, my attempts to get support from Eton under the product’s one-year warranty have failed. So, not only is the product defective as a HomeKit device, it is not supported by the company that makes it.Don’t waste your money on this product unless you want an overpriced nightlight.

Great to have for power outages
I live in CA and have this to use when my power is off. It is a good resource, well made and I highly recommend. I am getting one for my four children to have as well. Great product.

Nice niche product, just keep away from the app!
Not the kind of product you’d hope to have to use, due to the fact it’s for emergencies only, but it certainly does the job and the torch is bright enough once it’s charged. The night light is more than bright enough. Haven’t tested it on charging my iPhone yet, but it has two separate USB ports which is handy. Best but is the electric pins can rotate 360, so you can have this at any angle you want if the socket it goes in is in a difficult position. Warning: don’t download the app! It’s appaling and it would seem it was responsible for removing my automations in the Apple Home app! All my automations kept disappearing (luckily I had only a few, and I’d backed them up). As soon as I deleted the Eton app, the automations didn’t vanish.

Only works with HomeKit
I bought this when I was obsessed with Apple HomeKit! Now that I’m over Siri and have moved on to bigger and WAY more expansive smart devices and have totally switched my smart home from Siri to Amazon Alexa, which is so much better, this blackout buddy does not actually work as directed with Alexa. I can get Alexa to discover it but can’t get Alexa to work with it. So this would be just an expensive flashlight and nightlight if I didn’t decide to Continue to use it with Apple HomeKit. So I am only using it to activate lights in the morning before the sun comes up with its motion sensor. But if your looking for a device that can synk with motion sensors from HomeKit Compatible devices, then this is a great product for you, but if you want versatility, don’t waste your money, just go buy a flashlight, and a battery pack and you have something better.

The app is USELESS!
Initial impressions: I almost sent this back within 2 hours of unpacking it. The plug isn't foldable so it won't be travel-friendly. The app, Eton Smart, simply does not work. The process for connecting the device is straightforward right up to the point where it tries to add the device. At that point the device has already been discovered and added to one's wifi successfully using iOS' Settings--> WiFi. Aaaaaand... nothing. The cursor spins forever. Reset of the device didn't change this. Powering the iOS iPhone (or iPad) off and back on and retrying made no difference. Moving it to a different socket in a different room made no difference. For what it's worth, I was using an iPhone X running iOS 13.4.1 and my WiFi network is an Eero system. As I went to get the box to pack it up and start the return, it occurred to me to try Apple's Home app anyway using the provided setup code. Of course, the Home app worked. So I have access to the functionality exposed within Home. But this means that any available or forthcoming software/firmware updates are inaccessible to me. And in the event of any future problems, if asked to use to app to connect or troubleshoot, I'm dead in the water.I tried calling Eton but phone support is (understandably) unavailable during the current crisis. I'm going to email them this review...
