It is a nice grater, exactly the style I wanted but I didn't pay attention to the safety part. It is very smooth and takes a little bit of effort to actually grate something. The wires are rounded and smooth. Grandmas Acme grater had flat wires and made for easy and quick grating.

My mom had a grater like this while I was growing up. It worked really well. We used to grate potatoes, salt them and fry them in butter. They were so good. I didn't have my mom's grater so I ordered this one. When I first held it in my hand I thought it felt different and kind of flimsy. When I used it, I found that it didn't grate potatoes well at all. It must be made improperly. It will grate them but it is very difficult to do. You can keep going back and forth and almost nothing is happening. Very disappointed.

Terrible product. I have tried to grate an onion with it. It takes major muscle power and all you get is mush. Does not grater cheese well either. Do not buy!
