Incomplete Steps in Repairs
I like that this book is color coded into different categories such as plumbing, electrical, floors, doors & windows, etc... However, I've got another 1 of the older Black & Decker home r we pair books & it goes much more into detail on how to do things step by step & for each & every job, it starts out by showing you the tools you will need. It is a much better book than this one & it is much older. This book doesn't show you how to finish alot of things in their steps like in vinyl plank flooring they show you nothing about transition strips or how to install it in bathrooms around bathtubs & toilets, nor what types of subfloor you should use, or anything about caulking or installing your trim at the end. They leave out alot if stuff that's not covered anywhere else in the book. For the cost of this book, I wouldn't recommend buying it. You can learn more on you tube.

Looks good so far
Looks good so far. I can't help noticing that with very few exceptions, all the DIYers photographed are men. Women are only seen grubbing on the floor cleaning grout, laying vinyl tile and installing sump pumps. For a book with a 2014 copyright, this is pretty retrograde.

Filled with pictures and step by step instructions. Only problem that I found is that it doesn't cover more modern renovation projects like installing stone countertops or undermount sinks. Great for walls, roofing, decks, tile, electrical, leveling, flooring, and other projects.

Good reference book for a wide variety of do it yourself projects which to be undertaking alot of lately. Great having big color photos of what they are talking about. But I find a minor problem in that the book covers such a wide number of area that some of the projects lack some detail and procedures. But overall the book is a great help.

I am the president of our homeowners assoc. and I have a board that doesn't understand anything about repairs and maintaining. With this book I can show them what I am talking about and they can visually see how it should be fixed. It allows them to be knowledgeable enough to recognize when something is don correctly or not. I have shown the book to several friends and they have ordered it for their kids who are doing DIY projects at home.

Excellent resource
I have only had this book for a short time, but it is impressive. Wide array of topics, in depth explanation, excellent graphics. Big and heavy, not particularly convenient to hold up and read, but worth all of the information.

Two Stars
Written for the American market. Don't buy if you live in the UK.

Not ok
The book is informative but when the book came, the hardbound cover is coming off and looks like ripped apart, seems like from second hand store and they just sell it again. Not recommended.

Great basic source of Info
A great basic source of info, not an encyclopedia but well laid out with great photos of almost everything a home owner will encounter either enabling them to initiate the project themselves or being able to negotiate with an understanding of the work with a tradesman/contractor.

Great starter book. Gets you the very basics and if your repair inclined you can figure out the rest.
