Easy to Understand
I bought this book to get the dimensions right for a classical style entablature for a house I’m building. Knowing little or nothing about classical architecture, this book was a huge blessing in ramping me up to speed. Few interior decorators or finish carpenters understand this as they only seem to do modern design nowadays.

Very well written for the professional, and the interested in the classical orders
The illustrations and the text are superb. I am an art historian, not an architectural historian, so this book works for the professional as well as the interested. Well put together, and a good price.

Horrible print of a great book
This is a great book that I have been using as a textbook in a first year architecture course. However, this new print is horrible!1. It is not as crisp as the previous editions, and images are not centered on the page! The plates are now single sided and smaller and crammed in the spine with a big blank border around the edges.2. IT IS MISSING PART II (about half of the book)!!! (Arches and Vaults, Roofs and Domes, Doors and Windows, Walls and Ceilings, Steps and Staircases)3. The book just ends with the plates, but then there is an extra plate IX at the end, right after plate XVIII. What a mess...4. The book arrived bent in several crazy angles with dents on the front. It was packaged with 13 other perfect books on top, so they should have helped flatten it out. Obviously it was bent up when it was put in the box.Not happy...

Do It Right!
Want to learn why the modern McMansions have no style? This 19th century guidebook details the proportions of classicalism for designers to reproduce. This is a must have book for anyone looking to replicate old details on new homes. Its heavily illustrated with all sorts of details. If you are just interested in architecture, this book is also a great addition to your collection. Another great Dover book!

Technical aspect of Classical architecture.
A good book for an architect to gain an understanding of the technical aspects of classical architecture. It is not exactly what I thought it would be, but nevertheless a general reader can learn the forms of classical architecture.

How To For American Classicism
This is probably the best book written as a "how to" for serious Classicism in architecture. Written in the early part of the 20th century, it continues to be the most comprehensive, brief guidebook for architects.
