50 Things to See with a Telescope: A young stargazer's guide [Read, John A] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. 50 Things to See with a Telescope: A young stargazer's guide Review: Excellent, perfect companion for a first telescope - Wow, I'm amazed by this book. My young daughter got a 130mm Newtonian reflector telescope for Xmas and given we've never had a telescope before, we've been feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed with the amount of information found on astronomy websites and forums. This book was our savior: it's simple and objective, with the essential information for a beginner to perform their first steps stargazing. The perfect companion for our first telescope. The book is well illustrated and sets the expectations right for what one can see with a small telescope under different sky conditions in the northern hemisphere. It also contains a chapter about gear essentials. In summary: If you've just bought or are about to buy your first telescope to explore the sky with kids, I can't recommend this book enough. Review: Great intro to the stars ! - This book is a great introduction to using a telescope and easily finding many of the great sights in the sky. It’s easy to read and follow - and its a great book for both young and old(er).

The book that sparked a new hobby
I purchased this book over a year ago (along with 50 Things to see on the Moon by the same author) when some unforeseen circumstances sidelined me from being outdoors doing the things I loved.... the ease of use of this book and the way the author explains what to look for really made approaching Astronomy (an otherwise intimidating subject for me) quite enjoyable! This book single handedly led to a new hobby which my husband and I have become immersed in and are still enjoying (and have purchased (and highly recommended) this and the supplemental books to many of our friends who have expressed an interest in beginning Astronomy!
