What a Wonderful Word

As a definite logophile (lover of words) and language enthusiast, I absolutely adored this book. Contains untranslatable words from all over the world to cover everything from "the beauty of nature" to "bad luck" to "tapping someone on the opposite shoulder to trick them." I love the extra info beneath each word too; tells you a lot about the countries and cultures they come from.

We are using this with our worldy wisdom homeschool curriculum and it fits perfectly! We have fun learning different languages and phrases and have been able to incorporate a couple into our daily lives. The pictures are beautiful, the descriptions perfect bite size facts for children. Definitely recommend for any child or classroom.

Delightful! A fun romp for lexiphiles young and old, with charming illustrations. I do with the pronunciation was included on each word's page, instead of a separate pronunciation guide at the end, but I still loved the book.

This is a beautiful book. The pages are thick and the illustrations are charming. The untranslatable words are wonderfully relatable, and you'll want to commit them to memory. My local library didn't have this book, and I'm very glad I took a chance on buying it without having read it first.

Lots of great little stories attached to each of the words that are chosen. Many different languages chosen, so you get to learn new things about the world. Highly recommend this small little book.

This has gone in the bin, absolute rubbish. A lot of words I've never heard of and that's saying something at 66 years of age.

This is a wonderful gift - bought it twice now (for children aged 6). Lovely illustrations, very simple definitions of words that are untranslatable into English - so children learn about geography and different cultures. Very simple concept executed beautifully.

Dip in and out to find some interesting and brilliant new words. Great for children and adults.
