It has a lot of historical and political information. However, the book focuses only on Egypt and there is not a lot of information about other Arab countries. Review: Somehow limited view of feminist engagements in the Muslim world. She fails to recognize non-religious feminists movements in Muslim countries such as Pakistan.

Badran's Feminism in Islam gives a good overview of how Feminism had developed historically in the Middle East, with reference to Egypt. She engage in a debate that aims to test the convergence between the two feminist movements, religious and secular, over time. However, if you are looking for an in depth explanation of how Religious believes inpact on Islamic feminisms, this rests rather superficial.

Great scholarly book. A must read for Islamic students who are in search of woman's role in Islam and contemporary issues
