This is Great product!
I was pleasantly surprise to really like this product. I love my steaks, chicken, fish, and this product tasted quite good. So, I will eat it occasionally to reduce my consumption of animal products in my system. My son loves these protein products and I am quite satified with the price for what I received. I will continue to purchase this great product!!

Excellent taste, if one knows how to cook it
Excellent if cooked nicely. Soya alone is not so tasty. This one is the best I found, but one needs to add sauce or spices or... something... Good for heath, good price.

Versatile textured meat sub.
I would call myself a creative cook, having been at it for nearly 40 years. I have been trying recipes with Nutrela and each one improves. I have successfully made soups, tacos, chili, and more. I found better prices in Asian markets in Dallas, but would continue to pay this kind of price for the opportunity to do something healthier and still get a meat texture.

Some kind of a soapy substance
The instructions on the package say to wash this first before cooking it into something. It really needs the washing, because there is some kind of a soapy substance that comes out when you do, and, judging from my reaction to cooking it, it can cause gastric upsets. This may be a general problem with similar products made in the USA. I don't understand exporting what should be nutritious food from India, thereby depriving people in India, anyway. It is from India, by the way, and the Amazon web site writeup doesn't say this. Also, the package printing is in (I am guessing) Hindi, not Egnlish, with a picture of someone from India growing big and strong from eating it. I wouldn't want to do business with this overblown, pompous, ill-willed storefront again.

yummy snack, great pocket-food
I did not buy this through Amazon. We discovered it by chance while shopping in a local India/Pakistan shop. I landed on Amazon because I did a google search to try to find out if there is some health reason that they instruct you to rinse it and squeeze it out repeatedly. But as long as I'm here, I have to say THANK YOU, INDIA!Why? First, it has a terrific protein-to-carb ratio. This makes it really easy to make a Zone-balanced snack or meal addition. I often eat it when I would otherwise have some potato chips and then have to dig up some pure protein to go with it. There isn't much fat in these right out of the box, but that's ok--see the way I prepare it, below.Second, it's REALLY DELICIOUS! Not just by itself, of course; I do things to it. But I find the texture very appealing, whether I make it juicy, chewy, or crunchy. The taste of the unadulterated product isn't bad, it's just bland. But you could eat dry it in a pinch, especially if you had something to dip it in (oil and salt, maybe, like potato chips).I don't follow the preparation directions on the package, which is why I came searching, just to make sure that they weren't loaded with pesticides or talc or something that really needed to be washed away; another reviewer/commenter who is from Pakistan seems to imply that it is a matter of taste. I find the texture much less appealing when prepared as directed, and, once the product is saturated with plain water, it has much less ability to soak up something tasty. So, here's my favorite Nutrela recipe--preparation is similar to pot-stickers, and takes less than 10 minutes:2 tbsp soy sauce1 tbsp coconut oil1 tsp favorite spices (I like Old Bay, hot red chili pepper, ginger, and a little hot sauce)1/3 cup waterMix all that over a low flame until the coconut oil is melted and the spices distributed.Add one cup of dry nuggets, right out of the box. Quickly stir so that all nuggets get an equal amount of moisture on them.Simmer on a low heat until the liquid is gone for a juicy result, or longer for a chewy result, or longer until the chunks are as brown and crunchy as you like. Now you have a great pre-workout snack, or prepared to take a light-weight small meal on a hike. Add a small piece of fruit and you're in the 30-30-40 zone. You can add them as a topping to a meal that is short on protein, too.I haven't tried it yet, but I think this would make an excellent substitute for turkey stuffing, for vegan thanksgivings. Celery, poultry seasoning, olive oil, parsley, salt, about equal parts water and nuggets--yum. I do this with gluten puff which is a very similar product but without the carbs.
