Fresh Miracle Fruit Berries - Turns Sour to Sweet - 15 Fruit

Ethan's Garden is an excellent vendor. I received an e-mail shortly after my Amazon order confirming that I would be available to pick up the package as soon as it arrived so that we could tweak the shipping date if I wasn't able to be there. The berries arrived the next day with very clear and informative instructions. We followed the advice for storing them and tried them out with an assortment of food the following day. What a fun experience! Here's what we found: - Grapefruits are absolutely amazing. They win in my book for "best improved taste." - Both lemons and limes are bright and sweet, without the pucker face! - Radishes are reduced to the taste of a "dense" water chestnut, with no "bite." - Yellow onions taste like sweeter onions, but don't sting the tongue. They did affect my nasal passages, however. :) - Salsa tastes bizarre. The tomatoes come out extremely sweet and "take over" for the other notes in the salsa. - Beer tastes less bitter and tequila tastes less pungent. Because the berries alter the tongue, you still get the raw effects of alcohol on your throat, etc. - Pickles tasted fruitier. - Tabasco sauce tasted sweet and less hot. Similar with alcohol -- you still know you're consuming something harsh! - Raw sugar tasted like ... weird sugar. Maybe smoother. Hard to explain. :) - The berries themselves didn't cause any reaction or stomach discomfort for us. However, beware of the odd mixture of foods you try, your belly might not like such a harsh combination of acids. :) Here's what we recommend: - The berries are actually very tiny (maybe the size of a large raisin), and you definitely want to be delicate when pullling the pulp off of the large (in proportion) seeds. - Use Granny Smith apples as a "palate cleanser" between trying different things. We also tried tortilla chips, but that seemed to alter the flavors a bit. Great vendor and great experience. Thanks, Ethan's Garden!

Shipper was very fast, responded to my E-mail questions, and even included a little pamphlet about trying to plant and care for your own. The effect lasted about an hour for me, and really "worked". These are neat little berries, I got them out of curiosity and as a gag, so was pleasantly surprised to find They were legitimate. I saw you can buy tablets with extract in them, but really, why get those when you can buy the real thing? Berry effect lasts longer and I imagine it has more of the chemical that causes the effect thaN the pills. There are plenty of lists online of stuff to eat after taking these, so I'm not going to drone on. You should definitely try Tabasco and tomatoes though.

These berries did what they were supposed to do - made sour food taste sweet. The box came with a few extra berries, which was good because in shipping them to a northern state with freezing winter temperatures, a few of the berries seemed to have gone a little past their prime - these darker red berries with some brownish spots seemed not to work as well (which makes sense, since the proteins that activate the sweet receptors in the presence of acidic foods had probably denatured, or become less active, in the brown, dead areas of those berries!). The effect lasted for at least 15-20 minutes, and was MUCH better than the less expensive tablets that I tried a few days later for comparison - the tablet I tried didn't work nearly as well and only lasted about 5 minutes, so I would definitely go with the fresh berries for my next flavor tripping party. I thought citrus fruits and tomato products produced the most interesting and appealing flavor changes (grapefruit, lime, lemon & salsa). Dill pickles tasted like sweet pickles, so those were fun too! I thought that the company would contact me to arrange for shipping, since this is a fresh fruit that can spoil, but they did not. I had to reschedule the event to coincide with the expected shipping date I received in an email from the vendor, and fortunately it arrived on the day it was scheduled. So, if you need your berries to arrive on a particular day, you might want to contact the vendor before you place your order, or immediately after you order to request a shipping date!

Did not work for me

My one-word review for this product would be underwhelmed. I First read about Miracle Fruit about 5 years ago. It was a story about large food tasting parties using this fruit and it seemed incredible. I have been intending to try it ever since. Maybe it was a 5 year build up or sub par fruit, but my experience has been less than amazing. The product did come quickly. When I get the text it had been delivered this morning I was actually surprised it arrived so quicky. The packaging was excellent and the instructions inside were very detailed and easily understood. I had to wait a few hours to try it because I had an appointment. But as soon as I returned home I did. I put the fruit in my mouth and used it exactly as directed. When I had completed that process I began trying foods. If there was any difference at all it was very minor. I think they one thing I tried that had the largest change was dill pickles. The difference was very dramatic but not in a good way. They tasted spoiled. Slightly sweet but mostly spoiled. All of the other things I tried were marginally different, if at all. I waited a few hours and tried it again thinking maybe I had a bad fruit. The results were the same. In my opinion there is no reason to order this fruit. I threw the rest of it away which is pretty expensive trash.

This was a lot of fun to eat then try different foods like lemons, limes, grapefruits etc. But at $2.25 each, it was quite expensive.

It's okay I noticed a difference but not that dramatic and it wore off quickly, it did make beer taste a lot better to me, haven't tried it with wine. The seeds have sprouted so I will try it some more when I get fruit, as I said it wore off quickly so I really didn't get to try that many things. The fruit has a pleasant taste but they are very small, it will be interesting to see how well it grows.

The berries were delivered super-fast with good packaging. All berries were fresh and intact. They are surprisingly small, I couldn't tell the actual size from the pictures before I ordered them. My first time experience: Ate one berry and removed the seed and after about a minute I ate a green apple and... Wow! The green apple tasted like if I dipped it in concentrated sugar; supper sweet. Then I tried the usual culprits lemons and limes. They tasted like they were soaked in sugar for a day: very sweet, but the normal tang and tartness of limes and lemons remained. Then I drank a mug of lime water without sugar; it was sweet and refreshing. In my mind I felt as if my body was consuming dangerous amounts of sugar (that's how sweet the sensation can be sometimes), I actually had to remind myself that its just the berries. Effects for me lasted between 40-60 minutes. Very interesting and strange fruit of nature.
