The director's extended cut of Tears of the Sun is about 20 minutes longer than the theatrical version, adding a significant amount of new material and trimming a little. Calling the new material "never-before-seen footage" is a stretch, though, as most of it was included as deleted scenes in the original DVD . While the new DVD includes no input from director Antoine de Fuqua, in his commentary on the original DVD he did mention that he regretted having to cut some scenes due to length. The new material mostly adds to the film's political context, and introduces a couple of small but important characters earlier. The fighting scenes are the same, but there are a few more graphic moments--a charred corpse here, a feeding vulture there. By offering more footage without Bruce Willis, it becomes less Die Hard in the Jungle , and the ending is certainly more hopeful, so the new version is probably a more interesting film overall. If you already have the first DVD, though, it's a tougher sell because you've seen almost all the new footage already, and you lose Fuqua's commentary (plus the less-interesting "fact track" and brief writers' commentary). The only bonus features retained are the two featurettes and the interactive map. --David Horiuchi After a West African president’s family is assassinated and civil unrest is rampant, a top secret team is deployed to the far reaches of the jungle to rescue a US doctor acting as a missionary. She insists the US forces rescue all of her charges. As a result, the group falls under rebel attacks when it is revealed that the son of the deposed West African president is among those being saved. Review: Tears of the sun - Great movie Review: I didnt know this was an early blu-ray released... - **UPDATED 02/26/2009, THIS COMMENT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ IS VERY OLD, PLEASE GO TO COMMENT PAGE OF THIS AND READ MY NEW POST." I heard that early blu-ray releases titles wasn't that amazing til new titles came out in between Christmas 2006 and February 2007 so, well i just had to take a look at this movie because I seen it once on tv but i am happy that this movie is in perfect condition with picture and sound quality from blu-ray... I believe it is not the blu-ray, it just what kind of tv and what kind of blu-ray player you are using. The only way to have all the excitement that you will need "digital equipment" 1. You need an HDTV that contains 720p or 1080p.. I dont trust 1080i. Make sure your HDTV has an intergraded or HD turner built-in.. if it dont.. get an set up box. Make sure your HDTV have an HDMI or Component connection.. I recommend HDMI which is far the best possible picture and sound quality. 2. Late blu-ray players released are far the best as Sony or Panasonic BD players. I have an Playstation 3 which it plays blu-ray the best. 3. This is option but to me is an requirement if you want surround sound theater like.. Make sure you get any receiver with 600 watts or over with Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 built-in. Dolby Digtial EX and DTS-ES 6.1 are my favorites and superior. Some blu-ray disc contains DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD. DTS-HD does work on my DTS-ES receiver, so i guess it don't matter as long you have DTS and Dolby 5.1 or 6.1 even 7.1, and up.(it is up to you) Conclusion: It is time to start using Digital instead of Analog.. Blu-ray Company is doing great with their business. Tears of the Sun is very great movie.. keep you focusing and thinking. Sometime you might feel like you in the movie cause of lot of dramatization emtional feelings. It looks better than I first saw it on TV but this is blu-ray taking over and makes it looks new again. Great sound, Great picture, Great movie, Great Actors, and Great Score to make 5 stars!!!

Worth Watching
I've seen this movie three times now, and it's a favorite. Not because of the subject-matter because that itself is horrifying, but because of the underlying message. Did they 100% accurately portray military tactics and decisions--I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on that. I do know I watched it with someone who's served two tours and he said that with the exception of a few things, they were fairly accurate for a Hollywood movie. Did they accurately portray the conflict in Nigeria? I know a little of what goes on in those countries because of friends who do work over there, but I also know that some of it has been exaggerated . . . at least in part for present day. I believe they were trying to convey conflict that has and does exist in many countries around the world. It's not a movie meant to be "loved" or even to be in awe of. There's a lot of internal conflict for the characters, and that is one of the most important aspects of the movie. The message is clear, powerful, and obvious, and that is the point. As for the superficial stuff, all of the actors are excellent in their roles, the photography is beautiful, the drama is powerful. It's Hollywood, so they're going to take some liberties, and that should be expected. There aren't overdone special effects that make no sense (sure, they're going to make things go boom). If you watch this movie with those things in mind, you just might be able to understand what they were trying to do (aside from just creating an action flick). It's not for the faint of heart or the overly critical, but in my opinion, it's worth watching.

Never More True than Today
TotS always brings tears to my eyes by the end of the film, with just how excellent the story unfolds in their desperate attempts to outrun the inevitable for these African souls. Unfortunately, no-one really cares about Africa and on many occasions I have lost friends and relationship opportunities even bringing up the major genocides and civil wars in Africa in conversations. I, on the other hand, caring a great deal about this serious problem, am glad to lose These friends and relationship opportunities of those so ignorant as to not know anything about the slaughter, not caring about it, or just wanting to not hear about it, and I am glad to make them feel uncomfortable regarding their bliss. This film is excellent in every way, and it brings up Many questions about duty, honor, integrity, and Why they are even there in the first place. Should they let these people die? Is it their problem? Is doing the right thing the same as getting the job done? Often, the ambiguity of their struggles is what defines their future meaning, and ultimately I think they showed something truly powerful in this struggle for relevance in an apathetic world of indifference.

United States Navy Seals - Best In The World 🌎
Navy Seals mission is to rescue Dr. Lena Kendricks who runs a medical mission, but won’t go without her patients. Lt AK Waters reluctantly agrees. Deep in the heart of the African jungle, they proceed to the extraction site. On their trail, are the rebel militia forces. Many villagers are butchered to death. These rebels are not human but brutal animals. Scenery is spectacular, action is fast and furious. Navy Seals are outnumbered, low on ammunition and fighting for their lives. Air support arrives, but many Seals did not make it. Just an amazing movie 🎥 👍🤗🙏💝👏👍👍

Region free
Great movie. The disc says Region A (only) on the back cover however it’s actually region free. Other versions of this movie show region free A,B,C symbols on their back cover, so it’s consistent despite the incorrect labelling on this US release.

A Harrowing African Tragedy; Authentic action, & Tense Rescue Mission
Tears of The Sun (2007) Blu Ray Version, with extras including deleted low-definition scenes. (20O5 DVD version has "Directors Extended Cut", which is 20 minutes longer.) Technical Advisor was Mr. Harry Humphries, US Ex-Navy SEAL TEAM 2. Great direction and 2nd Unit work. Excellent cinematography, aerial photography, and, when appropriate, fight and action choreography - which are important to me, in cinema released films. The opposition are convincingly evil! One of Bruce Willis' better films; Monica Bellucci gives a fine performance, as do supporting players and extras. The film story is based on one mission involving the "Canadian Joint Task Two", which happened in Colombia, and was written by an ex-member. The title was nearly used for "Die Hard 4: Tears of The Sun", but which was NOT made. While working on this film, Bruce Willis asked that the title be changed to "Tears of The Sun", which he had liked for some time. Fast standard delivery, in very good condition, as described by seller, and at a keen price. **Highly recommended 📽️ film. Now one of my favourite rescue mission films, along with "Act of Valour"; and "Special Forces"; & "The Wild Geese" (See my Reviews.)
