Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism

Thorough, organized, readable
The newest edition was assigned reading for a Master's level nutrition science course. I couldn't afford the newest edition, so I ordered this one, although I did rent the newest addition that was required reading. If you are buying/renting this book for a course, I highly recommend the digital version so that you can use the search function. I rented the newest edition as an e-book and purchased this edition as a hardcopy. I prefer to have hardcopies in my collection but to use ebooks during the class. I prefer to rent ebooks as well, vs. renting hard copies because I don't have the stress of keeping the textbook nice for three months. This book is thorough (detailed) and provides the science behind nutrition in a logical and organized manner. It is quite readable, even for the lay person. This is a valuable reference book to have on your bookshelf if you are going to enter into a profession in nutrition science.

Got this for a class - read it for fun
I might be a nerd but this is one of the only textbooks I kept from college

Everything you could possibly need to know about metabolism is in this book.
I read this book for my macro- and micronutrient metabolism courses and felt it helped tremendously. It really made all the info my professors were cramming into 45 min lectures come together for me. I also found it really helped to read it out loud and use my hands to help me visualize which way things were moving in and out of cells and whatnot. Although it is great info, it is a science text, so it's easy for your mind to wander. Before I started doing the assigned readings, I was failing the class, but once I cracked this baby open, I was a straight-A student once again. It also helps to have your chemistry book handy. It had forgotten what some of the chemical reactions were and why they mattered. Don't hesitate to stop and look up terms to get the full grasp of what is going on.Now that I'm in the field, I still use this book all the time. It's way too much info for the average person to remember in detail months or years later, so I review concepts in this book often. I can't imagine the 6th edition has changed very drastically so I will wait until the 7th comes out before spending the money.I also recommend buying the hard copy b/c you can now buy the Kindle edition for $9.99 or less IF you purchased the hard text new from Amazon.

It has worked just fine! I have not missed any pertinent information
This book is for my advanced nutrition class at school. I was supposed to order the sixth edition, but to save money I ordered the fifth. It has worked just fine! I have not missed any pertinent information, the only thing is that the page numbers are off from the sixth edition. It was a great rental!

"Blank pages"
I was really satisfied with my purchase until I started reading the book and found out that there were 8 blank pages where the writing had "disappered". That was a really enoying! Otherwise I have nothing else to complain about.

As Good As New
My biochem professor recommended that we get the 6th edition of this book because the information might be slightly different. The text is exactly the same, the only difference are the pictures and diagrams (and the price tag). I'd recommend this option if you don't want to break the bank.

Read this front to back before grad school
This book provides essential nutrition basics. It is easy to understand and you can lift it without back strain. I bought it while midway through my graduate courses in nutrition, though should have read it before and used it as a reference during.

Rent don't buy
I rented this book from Amazon for a couple of classes I was taking in my Dietetics program for pennies on what it would have cost me to rent it from the University book store. I ended up going with the kindle version and I was pleasantly surprised by being able to use the search features for looking things up quickly and referencing. I used this on my Macbook pro and if you are writing a research paper it auto cite's for your bibliography (great feature!)!!! The material can be dry at times but it had everything I needed for class in an easy format. The rental program is the way to go!

this book might be the only reason I passed biochem
Studying metabolic biochemistry as 2nd year Dietetics. This book went into much finer detail than our lecture notes, which was apparently necessary, as I wouldn't have passed without it.Fairly easy to read (although I had to use the internet to check some terms!). Wish I'd bought it earlier.

Great book
Like a lot of people, I get a lot of my nutritional information from the web, a lot of which is unreferenced and unreliable - so it's great to have this book handy to check that the 'facts' I am reading on nutritional websites are actually correct.
