Base is not flat; not good for one-handed operation
Spooling mechanism is solid, and the device itself operates quite smoothly. The numbers are a little light/small. Would be better to have the foot marks bolder. However, the base is rounded, so forget about leaving the body to sit steady on a flat surface - falls over every time.

Not often you need metric but some plans or instructions are in metric and converting is a pain. But a good quality tape measure close by is nice. Hard to beat a Lufkin.

Troubles counting, 96, 97, 98, 99, 1m, 1, 2, 3, 4....
I have an old Stanely 500.0cm tape that properly counts so you can read 243.4cm without any problem. Rather this Lufkin, for any measurement greater than 99.9cm (marked on the scale), you have to add the appropriate amount of metres. Thus 243.4cm=2m+43.4cm. Obviously if you never need to report over 99.9cm, this works fine (as the scale doesnt reset ever decimetre) yet because the scale resets ever metre, its rather unusable. And yes there is room for "243" to appear under the two hundred forty third centimetre tick. Its better to limit the ways someone can misreport a value, especially if you have to switch back an forth between millimetres and centimetres (saying 243.4cm is 2434. mm, while not having to add 2m to 43.cm).

Why doesn't Lufkin show the Metric tape marking?
I wanted to buy this Imperial/Metric tape measure because I like Lufkin quality and Lufkin to date is all I have in my toolbox BUT Amazon shows the Lufkin tape markings for only their NON-Metric product, so this time I purchased Amazon's house brand tape. Sorry.

The picture and description mention the PHV1035CMN. When the PHV1035CMN model finally arrives after 6 weeks, it is a Metric only tape, not Metric and Standard as pictured.

Not the tape measure in the picture
The tape measure they actually sent is much worse quality than the one in the picture I’ve used both and if I knew it was this one I wouldn’t have ordered it. Flat out lie
