Collins German Dictionary Complete and Unabridged

Not a simple word for word dictionary. Examples of usage are most helpful.

The best. Every German dept should have one.

Not for beginners but if you are sufficiently advanced in your verbs and grammar and are ready to start complex translation etc. this is fantastic. Detailed word explanations with excellent use cases.

Brilliant two-way dictionary. Half German-English and half English-German. As it is 'unabridged', every word is followed with 2/3 in-context examples to see how it can be deployed in a sentence. Super worth while if you know what you're already up to speed on the basics (articles, cases, tenses, endings..m etc). Well made too.

Very remarkable and highly complete - scholarship of the highest order

This is an excellent dictionary, comprehensive and easy to use. The examples of words in context are extensive and extremely useful. Highly recommended, with one caveat: the paper is extremely thin, and as a result the printing on the reverse of the paper is quite visible, which makes reading less easy than it could be. This no doubt keeps down the cost and the weight, but I wonder if it is worth it.

the most mcomprehensive German English dictionary that's affordable to mortals - really good reference source - has variants and nuanced entries so a bit of back and forth between German and English should help you properly deetermine the right term for all eventualities.

I'm revising German after studying it at School and Uni. many years ago. There are many sentences that show you the vocabulary in context. So for me, it's great. (Slight negative...the paper is very thin, so be careful when turning pages).
