Great for Bible Study Group
Several of us in our Women's Bible Study group have this book and we se it regularly. It puts a contemporary and thoughtful spin on the Psalms we all though we knew. It is also a joy to pick up and read casually every day during quiet times.

A good and refreshing take on the Psalms
A different approach to reading the Psalms that is both refreshing and understandable. Obviously liberties are taken in the translation and oftentimes I thought they were a bit too paraphrased compared to the original texts even to the point where they do not sound familiar at all. Aside from that, one can still benefit from reading Psalms Now because it brings the Psalms to life in a way that makes more sense in a world that is far removed from the ancient near east. I was looking for something that would open up the Psalms a bit more apart from unpacking the language using exegetical resources. I am enjoying Psalms Now.

ending the journey
Scripture says,"Old men will dream dreams." For 2 years I've been dreaming about how a community that cares would look. At age 85, I've asked my 4 doctors for 5 more years to see "it" happen. It's starting to happen with over 50 friends who have gotten on the train. Psalms Now is the platform (or foundation) of the village. Homes for families who have lost everything in this economic era, returning veterans, hurting seniors, single parents, all living around a park, recreation field and community garden. The frosting is a home for abandoned, abused or homeless children, a pre-primary charter school, tutorial school, culinary school, health food restaurant, senior action club, produce-cheese store, flower-gift shop, health club and coffee-conversation club, an assisted living home and apartments for volunteers. What a dream to dream! Thank you Lesley F. Brandt.

psalms now
I ordered this because I was reading a copy at a friends house and she was not willing to part with hers. Hers is an older version and the page count and type style was better than mine, but the readings are the same. Will shop the other books by Leslie Brandt starting with the seller I used. I am satisfied with my purchase and seller.

new insights into The Psalms
This was purchased for a gift. I own Psalms Now; however mine is paperback and the one I purchased for a gift was a beautiful hardback edition.

Paraphrase of the Psalms
My wife gives them to ladies that she knows during difficult times in their lives. It's great for quiet and meditative reading.

Rediscover your favorites
Brandt continues to rewrite and renew his view of the Psalms, God's songbook. It will give the reader a chance to rediscover what grabbed you the first time you read a Psalm and knew God was speaking.I have had the chance to use the book with junior high and high school students and I have seen it provoke thought. This last purchase of a dozen copies were for graduation gifts for the seniors at my church. The book makes a wonderful gift for young people that seek spiritual transfomation through the Word.

Wonderful except it ends at Psalm 137!
As my headline says this is a wonderful version of the Psalms, but for some inexplicable reason it ends with Psalm 137! Why? There are 150 Psalms. The first edition hardback version covers all the Psalms so is worth purchasing. I don’t know about the 2nd edition. I was so pleased to find a kindle version, but that was quickly followed by disappointment that my favourite Psalm 139 is missing.

Find new thoughts and inspiration!
This little but very well produced book is simply wonderful! The much loved book of Psalms in the Bible has been given a modern look coupled with an incisive modern expression. New thoughts and inspiration pour from its pages and somehow seem much more relevant to the problems and blessings of the culture of today.Highly recommended for personal use and for use in corporate worship.

It stopped before my favourite Psalm!
The Psalms can be difficult to understand sometimes but this publication brings the words and meaning into the 21st century. But, why did it stop at Psalm 137. There are 13 more in the Bible, one of which, 139, is my favourite Psalm. As I got to 137 I was looking forward to having just one more before my favourite one. What a disappointment!

The Psalms as a whole have never grabbed me (except ...
The Psalms as a whole have never grabbed me (except for the well-known verses which are as quotable as some lines of Shakespeare). Since this purchase I refer to the paraphrases in 'Psalms Now' alongside the full record in order to grasp the esssential positive message.

Springboards for prayer
I bought this after dipping into someone else's copy. The richness of the psalms is here in modern day terms. The book of psalms is where the bible gets personal, something often hidden behind the contextual bit and the translation bits. In this version it reads like the letter you would like to write to God. And their encouragements are written out plainly as well.
