Great little radio, well worth the money
I bought refurbished but I could not tell it from factory - new. This radio is a really nice looking set. Both FM and AM reception are excellent and if the radio is in a low interference location, the AM section will really reach out at night. I like the settable tone control and also that the display brightness is easy to set for easy daytime reading of the RDS info, or display can be turned off for sleeping with the radio on. I am very pleased and feel i got good value for my money. I absolutely would buy it again or recommend it.One caveat though - do not expect a prominent bass from a set with a small speaker like this. There is no magic for small speakers, no matter what anyone or any company tells you. The tone is well balanced and I think this limitation will be insignificant to most owners. I have a powered woofer ( bass speaker ) and i will connect it to the receiver output jack on the back of this radio.

Great desktop HD radio
Nice clean, clear sound. I bought it to be able to tune in HD radio stations and it does a good job at that. My 2 complaints: A) I wish it had stereo speakers and B) I wish it had bluetooth capability to output the sound to other speakers. For its purpose, its a good value for the money.

Nice radio.
I am a fan of Sangean radios for their sensitivity and this unit does well. I got this one to explore the HD Radio thing and well HD it isn't but that's not the radio's fault. As far as the tuning is concerned I use a FM Yagi and a sloper for AM. The unit does a good job of using both but if an adjacent channel is strong it causes interference on the channel you want to listen to, especially if it is distant. AM HD (Digital) stations are somewhat difficult to tune with the internal antenna but the 40' sloper cures that problem. Sound quality is a little lagging on the highs but decent on the lows for it's size. Definately helpful to have bass and treble adjustments on the unit. I especially enjoy the display which displays all the RDS info at once and the direct tuning ability of the unit.

Good quality sound.
Bought the HDR-18 for our kitchen. The sound quality is very good. The AM radio stations we like come in through FM digital band like cd quality. Nice high quality wood cabinet produces good dept to the sound. As an experiment I plugged in a blue tooth receiver through the AUX input and the sound gets even deeper and more filling.I owned the Tivoli table top radio briefly and was not impressed with the sound and returned it.The HDR-18 is definitely a keeper.Obviously its just a table top radio and cannot replace a proper stereo but it sure packs a nice punch out of that little cabinet. The only gripe I have with it is its lack of built in blue tooth connectivity . That would surely complete the package.

Refurbished model had audio issues
I purchased a refurbished model. The sound was much much too deep. I tried adjusting the tone, but it did not improve. I like to listen to classical music and the output sound is a non-starter. I'm not sure if they are all like that, or if the refurbished model is defective. Also, the wood housing did not match up with the front very well. It might have been taken apart to repair, but I'm not sure. I plan to return this and find something with better quality control history.

Second purchase of the same radio
I have praised this radio in previous comments. It has a superior antenna compared to almost all other table radios. The controls and settings are needlessly complicated. My first Sangean HDR-18 HD Radio died after less than 8 months. I haven't seen complaints about this happening to other people, so I took a chance and bought the same radio a second time. Hoping for the best!

Great sounding radio
I upgraded by WR-2 radio to the HDR-18 to take advantage of the HD radio channels. I was always impressed by the WR-2's tone and functionality so the choice of the HDR-18 for the HD upgrade was easy. I opted for one of the "factory refresh" models to save a few bucks and apart from a couple of really minor cosmetic issues on the cabinet appears to be brand new. New or refreshed, its a great sounding device.
