CHARLIE formed in 1971 and released four albums in their career up to 1986.They toured extensively in America and the UK supporting amongst others FLEETWOOD MAC, THE KINKS, THE DOOBIE BROTHERS, and ALICE COOPER.CHARLIE were an almost band, had strong critical reviews, and radio friendly hits including Men without Hats. But a combination of bad management and record company indifference, meant they never actually made the Top 100.Their last studio album Kitchens of Distinction came out in 2009.For this final album, writer/guitarist/producer/singer TERRY THOMAS has recruited original members JULIAN COLBECK, and MARTIN SMITH, along with JEFF BECKS drummer STEVE ALEXANDER.

Superlative Charlie
I came across this album quite by chance whilst roaming the internet trying to find old Charlie albums from the 70's and was surpised and pleased to find Elysium. This album rocks out wonderully and it's so very good that it simply demands constant listening. Fabulous melodies and guitar licks. It's a great shame this album hasn't been promoted properly. I'm sure the record company would by now have achieved a deccent return on investment. If you happen to be reading this and you love good solid classic rock music - not the sort of sanitised rubbish that we now have to endure - then buy this. I also discovered their 2009 album "Kitchens of Distinction" which I also immediately purchased, and if anything that rocks even harder! Buy 'em both, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

A master songwriter returns
Our Terry has become an angry man, I am not surprised considering the amount of great songs he has written over the years that should have been million sellers. This is more rock based than old Charlie stuff, probably even more than Kitchens of Distinction. Once saw them at a college in London with only 8 fans, but they deserved a million times that. The production and the guitar playing are excellent .Particularly like Make It Real , and Hey Dude, but that may be because they have more of a hook on the chorus.Terry is not afraid to tell it as he sees it, and its great to hear him performing again. He was such a good songwriter, he gave away some great songs to Bad Company and Tommy Shaw. Well worth a listen

Inspired, Thought-Provoking and At Times On Fire
No-one could have predicted the return of Charlie, let alone the fact they've done it with such style and substance. Unlike so many these days, they're not afraid to say what they think about celebrity and the crushing vacuousness of so much in our brave new 'modern' world. Founder member and guitarist Terry Thomas has had his share of fame, even being a part of Bad Company for a while. Inspired, thought-provoking and at times on fire, these guys can rock with the best of 'em and this album's a winner.

This album has a few very good tracks and there is some impressive guitar work
This album has a few very good tracks and there is some impressive guitar work. The opening track is OK but things only get moving about half way through.Personally,I could have done without all the swearing and a track slagging off Kerry Katona. If you bought the original Polydor albums on vinyl you will hear some of the old magic on this offering, but not very often.

Wow! What a way to go out!
Most top bands would give their right arms for an album of this overall quality, and to think that this is their swansong - what a great shame and loss.Heavy yet melodic, great musicianship all round, hooks aplenty, great production and arrangements; it's a great combination. Maybe think Marillion meets Dire Straits but with added heaviness and cleverness, and just as good as both bands at their height. Not a single weak track on the whole album and in that respect it's quite unique.

Little known gem
Agree with the reviewers of this on Amazon.com (see theirs for more details) this is energetic, guitar and synth driven 80's up tempo rock that I really enjoyed. A bit different to earlier effort "No Second Chance" which sounded a little more sophisticated, even at times a little like Supertramp possibly, but this is a good listen for fans of the 80's style of commercial rock music. I've only got three of theirs including the previously mentioned and the release before this "Here Comes Trouble" which is pretty commercial stuff also, but not quite as good as this. Check out the song This Time and see if you don't find a similarity to Steve Winwood's "If You See A Chance", but still a great song in its own right. I had no idea they had so many albums out so looking forward to one day owning more.Footnote: I think the track listing on Amazon uk is incorrect for this album unless its some kind of different release.
