Dark and gripping!
Received this 26th April 2017 (am). There are two episodes on 1 DVD, and one episode and all the extras on the other. Quality no problem, and subtitles are very helpful. Having visited Cape Town, and the surrounding area, I was able to recognise quite a lot of the South African scenery! The biggest contrast is the state of Wallander in the first episode and the last. In the last, we see Wallander battling the onset of dementia, and still struggling successfully to solve a case. Kenneth Branagh pulls this off successfully and convincingly. It is a fitting end to an absorbing and dark detective series played by Branagh.I now have all the episodes of Wallander that were ever made, including the Swedish versions with English subtitles. Pity the whole series has now ended!

The Last Act!
Wallander 4 is the last of Branagh's Wallander. Great show I binged on all 4 seasons and it was quite a ride of emotions. This series is often compared to the Swedish version. I have both and enjoy them both! The British version can and does hold it's own. I am glad that they are not alike in ways. This season is well done and once again Branagh gets to show of his acting chops in well written series of movies. The series does not end on an up note but it is a satisfying end all the same. Good mysteries some top notch productions and wonderful acting all around make this season well worth the watching.

The Final Chapters
Not everyone's a fan of this particular version of the Wallander character which is fair enough but I've enjoyed the saga from start to finish. This final chapter is very much more of the same in terms of plot and tone with some extra emotion to play us out. We get three more 90 minute episodes, each dealing with a particular densely plotted mystery amidst corruption, politics, gangs, family angst etc. You know, the usual....The White Lioness - A change of scenery for our guy as he rocks up in South Africa and straight into the case of a missing woman.A Lesson in Love - Back on home soil and another woman in serious trouble with a biker gang thrown in for extra menace. The Troubled Man - We bow out with an increasingly personal tale. Another mysterious disappearance strikes very close to home as Kurt is hampered by his own failing mind.In fact Wallanders health issues are a key element of the whole series and the fact this is the end of the road for this particular version of events brings a certain poignancy and resonance to proceedings. It's all artfully shot with the usual stunning scenery of course, the acting is on the money and it adds up to a good, solid piece of detective drama. Still recommended.

Predictable
Having already viewed series 1-3, I would have thought that the predictability factor would have subsided in Series 4. Unfortunately, episodes again were too predictable and Wallander's "my way" approach continued on his merry way with little accountability. It always amazed me that the series that was supposed to be set in Europe/Sweden had very few non-English speaking actors or at the very least actors with a European accent. To me this stuck out like a sore thumb.Similar story lines from another UK series where Wallander ventured into Africa. Again, why would he go to a foreign country without backup???.In short, no real surprise without no real gutsy meaty storylines, the UK series tried to match it with it's Swedish counterpart and ran a slow second or was that third place.

Fantastic drama
If you like drama this is the best. With respect to others, far better than the Swedish versions ,. KB hits exactly who Wallander is.. that is the key to the quality. Superbly staged, and film quality fantastic. . Great purchase . Fully recommend !!

Farewell to Kurt Wallander
Three great episodes to conclude the Kenneth Branagh version of the Scandanavian series. Branagh is once again excellent. Kurt is now suffering from the early onset of dimmentia, but still has the resolve to solve the cases. The photography is brilliant. From the heat of South Africa to the bleak landscapes of Sweden. A tearful goodbye to Kurt & great TV.

Wallander a worthy addition to any whodunnit or detective/mystery collection.
The BBC produces some of the most intelligent and intriguing programs on the planet. The drivel produced here in the good 'ol USA just can't compare for the most part. The character development and interaction draw one into the story and enable you to care for and relate to each character. Wallander is a prime example. Branagh plays Wallander well and gives us the opportunity to see into the hopes, frustrations, and sorrows of another human being. It was a joy to watch and a sorrow to see it end.I wish that it was easier to determine if the discs were compatible with the US region 1 players and that all titles were available in the higher definition formats. It seems an easy fix to just state that in the specifications or descriptions of the discs but evidently it's rocket science and beyond whomever writes them. That aside, if you enjoy a series that involves some introspection, Wallander absolutely fits the bill.

Magnifica
