Classic for children
I bought this for our daughter who is having her first baby soon. She grew up with this being read to her on her birthday every year and I want her to be able to do that for her child too. It is a lovely celebration of "the day you were born." It's good for a child for many many years.

Beautifully Written and Illustrated
The birth of a baby not only rocks your world, but also that of all living things. This book is a beautiful way to welcome a baby into the world. It is a book to be cherished. The illustrations are incredible and engaging for the reader and baby, too!

Wonderful gift for first time parents!
I received this book from a good friend when my baby boy was born (our first). I thought the poetry of birth and the natural world was amazing. And the ending where a circle of loved ones welcomed the new baby whispering "We're so glad you've come," reminded me of all the love our family and friends showed our new baby. I can't read it without tearing up. It's a wonderful reminder that all life is sacred and beautiful. While the art is tribal, not fluffy, and some of the language is advanced for a developing child, I still love this book. Not every board book should be pastels and one syllable words. But I hope this book will be a keepsake that we can read together and remember what a miracle it was that he was born. I want to foster in him the spirit of this book... that all life is connected and we need to try to live in balance with the environment that sustains our lives.

Wonderful, Gift-Giving Book
Many years ago, as an adult, I received this book from my cousin with a note of gratitude for our friendship. Embracing the sentiment of being grateful for another human, I’ve gifted this book to as many adults as I have expecting mothers and newborns. The flow of the writing, its beautiful illustrations and educational/scientific details at the end make this book appropriate for all ages. A cherished book to have received, and one I love to give.

A Student Favorite
As a teacher I read this book on the students' birthday. It doesn't matter how many times I read the book in one school year, children never tire of it. They are enchanted and delighted with each reading and remind me when it is their turn for the birthday story. It also make a great baby shower gift. A must have for any library!

Wonderful book for a baby gift!
My aunt and uncle gave this to my son when they came to the hospital to meet him. I've pulled it out a few times to read it to him when I've been feeling sentimental (it usually makes me tear up a little), but about two weeks ago I pulled it out and got requests for "again" and now it's the book he wants to read before every nap and bedtime. My husband is not a very sentimental guy, but last night he requested that we purchase it for some good friends of ours who just had a little girl. I was shocked. A piece of advice for gift givers: DO make sure you inscribe it with your name(s), a message and the date. It will mean so much. Our son won't let us continue reading if we don't read him the message from my aunt and uncle...he'll keep interrupting with their names. A piece of advice for parents: Yes, the pictures are in an abstract style, but that gives you an opportunity to help your child start to recognize more abstract ideas. Point out not only what's what in the pictures (a whale, a bird, etc.) but point out the features of those animals (tails, heads, feet, wings, etc.). Our son can point out more animals and features every time we read it.

My favorite children’s book.
This is a wonderful book which I often give as part of a baby gift. I also read it to my friends if I see them on their birthday and everyone loves this story. No library is complete without it!

朗読テープで聞きました。 最後の、シーン。鳥肌ものです。 "Welcome to the spinning world. Welcome to the green earth. We're so glad you've come." 最後の大合唱は、すばらしい。 誕生の瞬間をこれほど感動的に歌い上げた本を私は他に知りません。

I have given this book to many new mothers to read to their babies as a welcoming gift to our planet. Each part of our world welcomes the baby as a valued part of the world community. Last week at a baby shower the baby's new grandmother was fascinated by it. I see the book as "spiritual" without being religious, and also as seeing our natural community as an important part of one's world and thus cared for and protected. Highly recommended as as such a gift.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and I'm glad I found it, it is by far one of the nicest children's books I have read. It brings a tear to my eye as I reach the end and remember the birth of my little boy. I would recommend this book to any new parent or as the perfect gift at a baby shower.
