A delight that keeps entertaining
We bought this in early 2020 when we began home schooling our first grade grandson. We used it for fun reading many times during second grade. Now, as he is about to enter third grade, it’s one of his favorites to read at bedtime. The illustrations are great, the poems are hilarious, and it’s kids’-eye-view is perfect way to establish a love of language and wit.

So Great...Except...
I love MOST of these poems. Most are wholesome and just fun. Except some about goblins, dragons, trolls and monsters and eating nasty stuff. Oh how I wish these had not been included! I read this book to my 1, 3 and 5 year old, but I don't leave it where they can flip through it themselves because some of the pictures and poems are disturbing. With that said, I LOVE almost all the rest of the book. These poems are fun to read aloud and the rest of it is so good. It's a shame because if it weren't for those scary/gruesome ones it would be an awesome baby shower gift!

Be Glad This Book Is on Your Shelf
I purchased this book for a friend's child several years ago, and it has always been one of her favorites. I was excited to get a copy for my own child! My baby is only 3.5 months old, but I read this book to her aloud frequently. Studies show that the more words children hear, the smarter they are (and no, tv and radio don't count), so reading is paramount for developing your child's brain. Prelutsky has a masterful command of the English language, and many of the poems have clever word play and double entendres. The illustrations (which I presume are what is keeping my baby interested at this stage), are lush and colorful and layered with incredible detail. This book is a must for any child's library.

Comprehensive collection, and then some!
This is the most complete collection of poetry for anyone who loves Jack Prelutsky. Includes 15 new poems, as well as activities relating to each section of poetry for kids to do. Also it includes a CD of the author/poet performing his own works. Beautiful book for giving as a gift, and extremely well-priced. Jack Prelutsky is a children's poetry genius.

Fantastic compilation and great memory training
Already fans of Prelutsky, we found this in our library and had to get one for ourselves, A wonderful collection of beautifully illustrated poems collected from many of his earlier books. Additionally this book comes with a CD of 25 or so poems that are perfect for playing in the car. Read by the author, most are set to music making them wonderfully (or woefully depending on whether you are a child or parent) memorable. No problem for a 4 year old to be able to recite a few of these substantial poems on his own within a few weeks of playing this in the car while running errands. Not just fun for little kids but still interesting for older siblings and parents. No need to mention to your kids that their vocabulary is expanding boundlessly as they sing about rats for lunch and gloopy glopers.

Quality book. Nice to own. Good poems. Good for a laugh.
The Ghostly Grocer is my favourite children's poem. Our daughter learnt it for part of her presentation to successfully gain a fee reduction scholarship to her private school.

The Kindle e-book.
The Kindle e-book is not well formatted. Paging and spacing is off. Parts are missing from the longer poems. Very poor quality.

In two minds
Some of the poems may result unsettling or scary for young children. A few I consider to be really entertaining.
