Shaft is the original that started it all, widely cited as the first "blaxploitation" movie. Richard Roundtree plays John Shaft, the street-smart private eye whose hunt for a kidnap victim puts him between feuding syndicates. Isaac Hayes provides the memorable Academy AwardO-winning Best Original Song (1971) and gritty score. "He's a bad dude," a racketeer says about Shaft in the sequel Shaft's Big Score! Leave it to Shaft to back up that statement in a way New York's wise guys understand as he investigates the murder of a client. Roundtree again puts on the hero's leather jacket, reuniting with director Gordon Parks

John Shaft
To be honest I had never known that there was a sequel to the original "Shaft".. I was about to pay for the "Shaft in Africa" Pt.3...when this popped up on my selection screen.. Here's my take on this film... Over all I would give this a 4 star's ... The story was pretty good..the supporting cast and the location scene's complimented the late Mr.Parks vision of how he left the viewer's off.. Of course there's the who's of who in the cast from television actor's of the era (1970's).. The exotic dancer was ...beautiful and I loved her dancing.. Reminded me of the days when I performed in the cabaret's..The last scene's were really put together very well... the car chase ,the helicopter and the final shot's of were the bad guys ...are served a dish that's best when it's ..COLD ! Richard Roundtree was and still is the best Shaft all around.. ! Sorry Sam Jackson..

Really Great Movie
Richard Roundtree as Shaft was one of the first movies with a black Private Eye that hit it big at the movies. The music composed and performed by Issac Hayes is an added plus as it and the action kept you on the edge of your seat and your feet tapping to the music. This is one to add to any collection of DVD's.

Another Case, Another Film
This continues the series of Shaft films with a second hard-core private-eye film which may actually be better than the first in some ways. When his girl's brother is killed, Shaft finds himself pulled into a war between the Mafia and the local crime lord while trying to figure out what is going on. Twisty, turny, sexy, and violent, if you liked the first one, you should like this one at least as well.

Shaft on the big screen
I hadn't seen this movie since I was a kid with my dad. The movie still resonates with me and the acting was very good. The plot is pretty good and yes Shaft gets knocked around in this movie but comes back with a vengeance. The score is decent but not on the level as the first Shaft movie, though Gordan Parks and O.C. Smith give their all. The females are top notch especially Kathy Imry, who can do it all.

A nice sequel
Not a bad sequel, it still has Gordon Parks at the helm and he even provides an interesting score. We do get one Isaac Hayes song (Type Thang). Richard Roundtree is fully confident in the role and as with the original, there are interesting and sometimes funny supporting players, I'm talking about you Drew Bundini Brown. The final chase is not as exciting as it could have been and goes on far too long. It misses the touch of the first films editor, Hugh Robertson.

He Shoots! Shaft Scores!
I thought this flick was a cut above the original "Shaft". With star Richard Roundtree and director Gordon Parks returning they've upped the ante here. Roundtree feels more at home in his leather and turtlenecks and he's been blessed with a better story that involves him manipulating different mob factions with a cache of money thrown into the mix. The flick concludes with a terrifically conceived chase scene that involves fast cars, speedboats, and helicopters that'll keep you on the edge of your seat. This is popcorn entertainment of the best kind!

Best in the series
The second, and my favorite in the series. More action, and a faster pace as well as a good amount of humor. The three movies transferred to Blu-ray look and sound great for movies over forty years old. Recommended for sure.

Fantastic film, very entertaining
You can't say the mob wasn't warned about John Shaft. "He's a bad dude", a racketeer cautions them. Now Shaft himself will deliver that message in a way New York City's wise guys understand. In this film, Richard Roundtree returns as street-smart P.I. John Shaft, who runs afoul of the underworld as he investigates a friend's murder. But the players are about to be played in this hard-edged thriller, the second of the three Shaft films of the 1970s. The very first Shaft film was a commercial success, and so two more films were made, so he's back with more, Shaft's in action. The DVD for this film has a dual layer format in that Side A features the regular version whereas Side B features the widescreen version.Very highly recommended.

BEST MUSIC
I have to say, this is the best of the Shaft trilogy...and with the best music...Gordon Parks (the director), did most of the music,so he had the music to fit the scenes, unlike mostBlaxploitation films... all though, I have never seena Blaxploitation with a bad sound track... I haveseen "NUFF", bad Blaxploitation movies...I give it 5 stars, for the soundtrack alone...

Excellent.............
This movie has been called the best in the Shaft trilogy and I would not argue with that. Richard Roundtree excels as the pleasant gumshoe who is subjected to all sorts of punches and attacks but never seems any of the worse of it.Bumpy and Willie are back giving yet again stirring performances and the plot is more complex that its predecessor. If you have not seen it, then do not miss it.A really good film.

Bang Bang - Shaft is back in town!!
I bought this recently and sat down to view it. Wow, what a sequel movie Shaft's Big Score is - it's full of action, from start to finish, action-packed, and more shooting than I've ever seen in my life! Just like the first movie, there are 2 viewing options. Watch it full screen on Side A, or slicker in Widescreen on Side B. The choice is yours - but don't forget to buy it first!!

meh
Ok, I'm sure it's me, but I don't think this stood the test of time really.Watched more or less half and lost interest, no depth and no cool shots of NYC to hold it in place. Sorry guys.
