The Farm as Ecosystem: Tapping Nature's Reservoir ─ Biology, Geology, Diversity

It's worth reading. Turns out the ecosystem is complicated! Who knew.
In a sentence: Simply avoiding damaging practices is not enough to protect and build strong healthy soil which is responsible for all productive agriculture. This book is an anthology of sorts that covers a broad range of subjects pertaining to soil and livestock and gives tactical steps one can use to improve their own soil and agricultural operation. The depth of the explanations of the chemistry and microbial systems is amazing. It should be read and studied but to be used properly will need to be kept as a reference book. The number of tables alone should be printed and indexed separately.Read this book if you are interested in unlocking the natural chemistry of your soil in order to create a stronger, more resilient, healthier soil that doesn't rely on modern industrial harmful chemicals that are destroying the topsoil of the planet.I love that Jerry is into the weeds (ha) of all the intricate complex co dependencies between minerals, bacteria and soil pH level and what helps and inhibits their uptake but also doesn't forget to pay homage to the anecdotal experiences he's done or heard from farmers over the years like activating your water with flowforms and sowing seeds on the new moon. He's willing to accept what he can 'prove' and what he can't but has 'proven' results and I like that openness. Even though he sites some people I don't care for.

Nurture Nature
Understand the interconnections between components of living soil and bring them together and feed the world. This is a comprehensive scientific plan to do just that. Best book I have ever read, except for the Bible.

It has some great concepts in it
I really was hoping that this book had more information on cover crops and using them to rebuild soil. It has some great concepts in it, such as the biological nature of soils and information on trace elements. Overall a good read for anyone who wants to make their soils more productive.
