I found the book to be a good introduction. I found it was an easy to read book. I was hoping for a little more design information and practical studies. There is also no need to look to this book for laby seal information.

Simply laid out. I've used this text as a reference for years now and I can't fault it yet. It was written before API 692 was published but is surprisingly well aligned. API 692 now has a lot more helpful detail though so suggest you consult that for serious work on specifying dry gas seals, barrier seals and support systems. For a simple reference with good illustrations and failure case studies this is highly recommended.
