I’ve been reading the TSITP series since I was 14, and it’s become one of my go-to comfort reads. Rereading it now brings such a wave of nostalgia, and I still get so invested in the characters and story. It’s wild to think it’s a TV show now! The writing is simple, but there’s a lot happening beneath the surface- Jenny leaves so much unsaid, and figuring it out yourself makes it feel much deeper than it first appears. For anyone who hasn’t read it, The Summer I Turned Pretty follows Belly as she navigates summers at Cousins Beach, dealing with love, friendship, and the bittersweet changes that come with growing up. The story is heartfelt, funny, and full of emotional moments that stick with you. The physical books are just as charming as the story itself. The covers are bright, fun, and really pop on my bookshelf, adding a little joy every time I see them. This series is timeless for me, and even with the simplicity of the prose, I can’t help but give it a full five stars. Perfect for anyone who loves a mix of nostalgia, clever storytelling, and a colorful addition to their shelf.

Good books to go with good series

If you love The Summer I Turned Pretty, having the entire trilogy together in one boxed set is perfect. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in Belly’s story, the relationships, the summer memories, and of course all the drama! Having all three books together means you can move right into the next one without waiting. It also makes a really cute gift for someone who loves the series or wants to read the books after watching the show.

First off, the books arrived quickly and in great shape. Well done, Amazon. These are easy reads. As in, I finished them all within a week and I’m not a huge reader. Jenny Han is a great writer and has a way of making the conversation flow on the pages so seamlessly, it feels like you’re witnessing the story right in front of you. The characters really come to life and become so special to the reader - it’s a real treat to read. As far as story - it differs significantly from the first two seasons of the show, in a good way. It’s easy to separate the show from the books so you aren’t comparing or feeling like the show messes up the integrity of the books. I appreciate that. The show can be it’s own entity. The book does have a happy ending, but it’s still not the one I wanted, which is always kind of disappointing (hence the 4 stars). I definitely felt all the feels and shed a couple of tears. All in all, it was beautifully written and I’m glad I had the pleasure of reading it and getting to know Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad. In my mind, I’ll just pretend I got the outcome I wanted.
