Great content, bad title :)
The book itself is exactly what I needed for my 4th grader that needs work on reading comprehension and he was intrigued by the topics of the passages, so he’s looking forward to reading them (which is awesome!!!). My only complaint is with the title. I hate that every time my son goes to get the book, he sees that he is a “struggling” reader. It’s a reminder that he needs extra help, and I think that can be deflating to his confidence. I wish they would have used that term in the description instead of the title, where it’s seen every time the book is opened. I actually added some Avery labels to it and wrote “super-cool” so that his confidence is boosted each time he opens the book to work on his reading. So that is my only negative. Otherwise, an excellent purchase that is sure to help with reading comprehension!

Great for intervention groups
I am using the passages from this book for my higher intervention group to work on comprehension, vocabulary and word work in conjunction with a phonics instruction program. So far, my students really like the story subjects and are doing well with completing them with the assistance of my paraprofessional while I work with another group.

Good for struggling readers
Small passages make it easily digestible for children to read. Includes vocabulary and reading comprehension questions.

Passages are great; work pages...meh
I like the variety of the passages in length, as well as in topic. What I don't really like is the comprehension part. It has good exercises, but there are so many (2 full pages after a passage). I think it's a little too much for my struggling reader.

REAL help for Struggling Readers
I was pleasantly surprised when I received this book to discover that it is full of so many interesting passages. Each article includes Comprehension questions, vocabulary, word work, and a writing exercise. Great for whole group, small group, one-on-one instruction, or homework. Hi/Lo Passages provide a wide range of readability levels which makes this book a perfect tool for all students in the class. Finally, some real help.

amazing reading resource
I bought this resource as recommended by a co-worker. I use it for small group reading intervention. I love that it covers all of the reading standards. Each passage is broken down by reading level. Each lesson has high interest topics. Each lesson also has a comprehension check, vocabulary, phonics and writing. Amazing Scholastic product. This passage goes as low as 1.5 and up to 5.0.

Children reading book should be more attractive and interesting.
This book is good. But it does not contain much of exercise for 8yrs child to do. Very expensive.

Disappointed
I am disappointed that many of the pages and 'fill in the blanks' have been written on already. There was also a class photo left in the book and sticky notes.
