Excellent Narration - Very Detailed Historical Account
I highly recommend you listen to the audio version of this book, as I think it would be tedious to read. Excellent narration - I felt like I was actually experiencing it! He is almost poetic in his detailed descriptions and the author obviously did a tremendous amount of research. It is very historical, and has countless quotes from people involved in building the canal throughout the period, read in their own accents. I have been so fascinated by the details that I am listening for a second time! I also bought a wonderful book of photography that really brought it all to light - "The Building of the Panama Canal in Historic Photographs" by Ulrich Keller. I wish I had learned all this before going through the Canal!

Great follow-up after cruise...
Book was very meaningful, as I only recently fulfilled a long-held dream of making the full transit. This is an excellent collection of photos showing canal construction, as well as everyday life for those involved.. Politics aside, I feel great respect and appreciation for those visionaries, including Teddy Roosevelt, as well as those who toiled under difficult conditions, to make it all happen.A personal note: Enjoyed a delightful cruise feature, in the person of a talented actor who maintained TR's persona, both on and off stage. I think he compared quite favorably to Hal Holbrook's magnificent Mark Twain.

The resiliency and power of steam energy.
Spectacularly clear and detailed pictures of a civil engineering endeavor that for obvious reasons ought not to have been possible to construct. We are demonstratively shows how the combine power of machinery and man's determination can achieve. To mechanical engineer its a manifested proof of the power of steam. It should be shown at the very first start of engineering classes in all universities.

Photographs of the Panama Canal
The Building of the Panama Canal in Historic Photographs by Ulrich Keller is a most fascinating compilation of photographs recording man's greatest engineering achievement in construction during the 20th Century. The photographs are even more special to me because it shows scenes that my Barbadian grandfather and uncle would have seen during their laboring to construct the Panama Canal. That uncle died of malaria at the Canal and is buried, alongside the many others who sacrificed their lives, in the cemetery shown in one of the photographs. This book ranks in the top 3 that I have ever read during my over 70 years of reading.Herbert A. Hutchinson

Bridging Panama Canal
This book entails a lot of historical photos and librarial facts. However, there are missing text/diaries and photos of many fine Black-Latino Panamanians who were mostly hired to assist in the building of the Panama Canal. I gave it a four star because of this reason. Perhaps the author did not wish to elaborate more on the natives who helped in the succession. Perhaps a followup to this book would complete the real historical element of The Building of the Panama Canal. All in all it's a great tool.

low resolution images for Kindle version
The low resolution images for the Kindle version of this book makes for a very poor book of photographs, some content mistakes and a few factual errors.

It's a wonderful picture history but it lacks any of the rich intrigue or details of the immensity of the effort. I would suggest reading David McCullough's "The Path Between The Seas" first and then his book it makes the photos come alive in that you now have the background information to appreciate them.
