Ernest Jones' Swing The Clubhead method

Greatest Ever
I am blown away by the simple and yet incredible teaching this book has to offer. Who knew that golf shouldn’t be as hard as I seem to have made it. I can see “Why” the PGA would not have endorse this method so long ago. Golf teachers and their industry and all the quick fix artists would have lost millions. If you are serious about the game we all love, get this book you won’t regret it. He’s an English gentleman with a gift of an unbelievable knack for very intelligent explanations. Remember, just swing!

The concepts in this book radically improved my game
I started playing golf in 1973 and would shoot in the low to mid 50's for nine holes. In 2023 I was still shooting in the low to mid 50's. I never took a lesson, but had read multiple books and I changed my swing multiple times, and I could not get out of this range. In maybe 600 rounds of nine over those years I shot less than 50 around ten times and only had a handful of rounds where I didn't get an eight or higher on a hole. I was stuck at this mediocre level until reading this book over the winter and doing the simple swing drill in the book and in my first time out this year I shot a 48. I have now played twelve times with scores ranging from 44 to 50. It's unreal. I don't get 8's anymore and scoring in the 40's is like second nature now. What changed is this book taught me to swing through the ball, not hit at the ball. I learned that the arms must passively follow the lower body at the start of the downswing and any attempt to increase speed with with the arms and hands in an attempt to swing harder will ruin a true swing and leads to inconsistency. The golf swing really is simpler than its made out to be and this book will explain the reason for that. It did for me. Ten sub 50 rounds out of 600 over fifty years and suddenly I do that eleven out of twelve times. That can't be a fluke.I also want to give a shout-out to the 'Manuel de la Torre Golf Clinic - 1987 - The Swing Concept' video and his other video's on Youtube. He was influenced by Ernest Jones and his video's also helped me to learn how to swing the clubhead.

Average at best...
I am a golfer, and this is supposedly one of the best instruction books around. The parts that focused on the fundamentals are still timely, grip, stance, balance and the mental part of the game. Some very good information there. The main part of the book, Swing the Clubhead, basically all he has to say about that is tie a penknife to the end of some string, and there you go. If you are into instruction books, like me, then pick it up because the price is not bad at all, but if you are looking for some helpful pointers I would look elsewhere.

Not what I had hoped for
After reading about the author and being inspired by the fact that he played golf on one leg after losing it in world war, I, I did some research on his swing philosophy. I've noticed that several modern-day golf instructors use the swing to club method. I was anxious to read the book. However, the author spends most of the time justifying why he believes in this process. I feel it is far too technical in his explanations. I have been very disappointed as I have not taken very much from the book. I recommend watching. Mike Bender golf instruction videos instead of buying this book.

Classic Golf Instruction
Got this book with the full knowledge that it was written decades ago but still contains many gems that helped my game and my swing. Biggest thing I took away was that you can hit the ball straighter and farther if you don't try. If you just let your body and upper arms swing the club without trying to manipulate it with your hands and forearms. Look also at books by Manuel De La Torre and Ericka Larkin.

The simplicity of the golf swing
Many people playing golf are overfocused on the technique of the golfswing. They are unwilling to acknowledge that following and being true to a few simple principles, golf is easy. Do not overthink when playing. This book is great on these aspects.

Time to simplify the swing, and get it right!
It has taken me years to figure out that I needed to "relax", "swing without tension", to start playing better golf. This book tells me about the last missing piece, to "Feel the Swing" instead of thinking of the 2000 positions needed to swing a club. Looking forward to the next golf season. Actually, that last missing piece is where all novice golfers should start with, could save them from years of suffering.

Good instruction. Enjoyable read. It works well with Positive Impact Golf by Brian Sparks.

Truly a gem. This, unlike most golf books ...
Truly a gem. This, unlike most golf books in which you can get lost in body parts, is global in nature and very accessable. There's a reason its still in print!
