Beginner lesson book
My girls are 5 and 8 and this has been the perfect beginner book. I have a 4 year old who doesn't quite know her letters yet and I think this would be too much for her. Will start her too next year!

Good books
The materials themselves seem to be good, and appropriate for beginner skill level.I wish that the cover of the book was a little bit sturdier material, my daughter takes it to school in her backpack and it has gotten a little bent. That aside, it seems to be good quality.

Review by a Piano Teacher
As a piano teacher, Alfreds series are my go-to curriculum for private piano instruction. I actually used these books when I was taking piano lessons as a child and they set a firm foundation of skill and music theory while maintaining the interest and taking into account the attention span of the student. This particular book, designed for the earliest of beginners, preps the student with important, valuable content from the start but gets them playing right away as well - this keeps their attention yet begins to develop the proper fundamental technique at the same time. The student is able to progress swiftly through the pages and will finish with the book somewhat quickly, but at such an affordable price it isn't a hassle to purchase the next in the series. I highly recommend the Alfred series. This is the best there is.

Great product that works
Piano teachers surely hate me. I am a mother, who knows how to play (took lessons for 10 years when I was young) that is now teaching my own kids how to play. I simply can't afford 4 sets of piano lessons, so I have to do it myself. This book is helping me do it the right way. It starts out with piano posture and correct hand placement. Then, it goes on to simple drills that teach which fingers to use on which keys. Within two lessons, my son and I had played a duet of Merrily We Roll Along. He now asks for lessons every night. The book provides an intermediate-level duet at the bottom for parents/instructors to accompany the simple melody that the student is playing. I am loving it....

Just about the best
The language is suitable for youngsters, and the images are interesting for youngsters and keep them wanting to try more. This is the only book we use for 4 to 7-year-olds, and then continue with other Alfred books.

Great series to start with a4 year old.
I’m a big fan of this series for my 4 and now 5 year old daughter. She was reading music on the staff at 4 and 4 months and we sang all the songs. I like that there are multiple books for each level so that she can keep learning songs at the same level. Other method books add new complexities in each song to the point that a child gets stuck or is afraid to try new repertoire. This series allows for you to switch between books at the same level so the child can master a variety of repertoire without getting bored. I’ve been pointing at the notes while she plays, singing the fingerings, singing the note names, and finally singing the lyrics. This way, repetition is never boring.
